The only thing I can tell you is to not let it bother you. You've given yourself the solution in your own question: you said "the more they know it bothers me, the more they like doing it". They may continue to do it for a while if you don't say anything....but eventually they WILL tire of it and give it up.
When it begins, put your nose in your book and don't react to them at all. Give it some time, be patient. Remember that you are simply more mature.
I hope I've helped.

It is really sad that they are still that immature. Most likely they are wasting mommy and daddy's money on classes. When they are actually in the workplace, they will find out very quickly that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. So what do you do in the meantime? Good question...It is so easy to say 'ignore them', but not very easy to do it. They guy's answer about saluting them back is good. Maybe put them in the same position in your ethics class? I wonder how many of them have German in them. Or maybe even Polish. (as a Polock Even I can appreciate a good dumb Polock joke) It doesn't matter who you are, we all have something that someone else could make fun of us for. Whether it is a pointed ear, or a big butt, or a funny name there is something. Find theirs and turn the tables on them. Or continue to be the bigger person.

Send a class email. Draft a completely professional email that clearly states that while you appreciate the class clowns trying to lighten the atmosphere with their jokes, you don't appreciate that you are the butt of all of the jokes, and you are ready for them to stop. Make it clear that their behavior isn't professional and they need to get out of the habit of making jokes at others expense b/c in the working world that type of behavior is looked down upon.
If they are 23 and in law school they most likely haven't experienced a professional environment where that behavior isn't tolerated.
If the behavior doesn't stop send another email with a warning that you consider their behavior harassment and include the schools policy on harassment.
Finally, be prepared to move forward if the behavior persists beyond the second email. Save the record of sending the email and any negative or apologetic responses-just in case.

Boy,you have to wonder why they're wasting their own, or more likely, their parents money on a college education. I never "bite first", but I will "bite back". Ordinarily, I would say take the high road, and not validate such behavior with a response, since that's not working, bite back. Quick, vicious, and to the point. Choose a physically unattractive feature, an emotional or mental defect, weight, whatever. The worse thing you can do is give up you power to such inane, immature people. Take back your power, don't let it get through to you.
Best wishes!

Ugh, I have some friends with the same problems, and so I'm around a lot when people salute them too, and I believe you wholeheartedly when you say it gets annoying! The best thing to do is not let it bother you (I know that's pretty lame, but it really does work) once they think it doesn't bother you, then it's not so fun anymore.
Stick with the friends you've got and ignore those losers! :)

Get through your class and be glad you'll never have to see those pigheaded jerks again!
I'm so sorry for the way you have been treated. You ARE American and should be proud. I would share your thoughts with the dean of the school if this gets worse. It's amazing that they graduated college to begin with b/c they are so ignorant!

Do it to them back and look like you are glad someones on your side, i believe that will stop them doing it pretty quickly as you will have taken the power away from their "joke". Good luck.

Kids tease me a lot in school, but I just let it go.
