I took that road recently since I was told that it would lead way to the top of the mountains and you could have a nice view from there. But then I only discovered a gate after about half a mile that did not let you go any farther. Does anyone know any other place in the mountains on the northern side of the San Fernando Valley that gives you a great overlook?

I was asking for a view on the northern side of the San Fernando Valley. Is there one?

In Mission Hills, near the 118/405 fwys, there is a restaurant situated on a mountain top, the link is below. It has a fantastic view of the valley and is on the northern side of the SFV. They are very used to people driving up just for the view, but just in case, the bar/patio overlooks the valley and is beautiful. :)

Brown canyon would not give you a goo over look. Try up at Mulholland Canyon. there is a pretty good view at some overlooks at top of Topanga. Then at the top of Reseda Blvd at both ends you can get some good views.
