I let my dog and cat sleep with me once in a while and although I am ususally diligent about using Frontline on them which kills fleas, I forgot to put it on them this month. I have itchy, red bumps mainly on my arms but on my chest and back as well. I read that they tend to be on your ankles though. I checked my pets and I didn't see fleas but did see evidence of fleas by flea droppings (a vet showed me how to check). If I do have fleas in my bedding, will hot water and bleach kill them? Could these bumps more likely be an allergic reaction to something or follucitis? I put hydrocortisone on them tonight and no pets in the bed anymore!

If your pets are in bed with you then their fleas ar as well! And those fleas will bite you anywhere! The fleas around the ankles is only true if you are standing uypright and the fleas are on the ground/floor/pet level. Being in the bed widens the playing field. Hot water wash of the sheets will help. And DO Frontline the pets ASAP. If the infestation persists you may need to flea bomb the house. As for the bites, try "Sarna" lotion, available over the counter. Its a bit pricy but more than worth it, far better itch relief than Benedryl or Hydrocortisone or even Calamine/caladryl. And give the pets a flea bath before you put the frontline on them. They are as itchy as you, maybe more.

Good luck.

I would not use frontline for another two weeks because it could make your cat ill.Fleas do bite humans,if you have lots of fleas in your house you can use sprays and powders but i wouldnt treat your cat yet. Also another good flea treatment which i got for my cats from the vets was called advantage its about the same price and you apply it in the same way but it also treats your house because when you apply it on your cat traces of the treatment drop off and kill any fleas wherever your cat goes.I found with my cats if your a week late appling frontline the fleas seem to appear very quickly and get out of control finding them in my house so i use advantage which is much better.

The best way to handle this, and i am speaking from experience with flea infestation, is to treat the animals first with Advantix. Dont buy anything cheap it wont work. Then, quarantine the animals in your garage/basement and wait the 12 hours it takes for Advantix to kill the fleas and ticks on your animals. During the 12 hours, wash all bedding with bleach, and bomb the entire house with Flea/Tick foggers. I have rescued like 2 dozen dogs and cats and have had to deal with flea/tick infestations several times. Also, wash any animal bedding or plush toys. If you have fleas, you likely have ticks, also once the house is clean and the 12 hours have passed, the animals will actually attract and kill any other fleas/ticks for the rest of the month.

Yup, humans can get flea bites. Typically when they are around you ankles it's from walking in high grass where there is fleas. Hot water and bleach should kill them and I would make sure you bets beds are washed too.

absolutely, fleas love anything with warm blood and hair! they could be an allergic reaction, thats up to a doctor to determine.

as for the bedding, there are special flea detergents available for them, but a good washing or two should get rid of them.

good luck!

When my pets get fleas, they ATTACK me. It's more common for the bites to be on your ankles, but I got them everywhere. If they are hungry for blood, it doesn't matter where it comes from. Wash your sheets thouroughly and make sure to put the frontline on your pets immediately! If you are suffering from bites, they are too.

Getting fleas out of carpets is more likely the question. You have to get a flea bomb. It's a fog like substance that you have to vacate the house to use. This is the only way that I know of to get rid of fleas that are in your carpet. If you do have them in your house you should see them ocassionally.
