Please help me in identifying this dog. We have had him since he was 5 weeks old in which he was slightly smaller than my 4lb 13 oz Pomeranian. Now, 3 months later, he is a medium size monster full of puppy energy!! :o)
We were told when we adopted him that he was part Terrier and part Chow. I found nothing to prove Chow, not one single black mark on the tongue and the fur is way too silky. I saw a pic of a Pyrenean Sheepdog at the vet and thought this represented him the most, but I am not convinced since these dogs typically do not grow their crown hair over their eyes and his markings are totally different.

Thanks

I hadn't even thought of Baird, I will definitely have to look that one up. BTW - I always found that there were more health issues with pure breeds than mixed breeds, I guess that is true based on sturdy dogs versus ones that are in-bred for pure-bred purposes rather than ones that are pure-bred within the correct parameters of breeding...right?

Looks more like a Miniature Schnauzer mix. He's cute. I like his shaggy face.
Also, Chows don't HAVE to have black marks on their tongues. And there are many other dog breeds that also can have black marks or completely black tongues.
The Pyrenean Sheepdog is not a very common breed in the US. It is unlikely that you would find a mix or find a purebred of that breed unless you specifically looked for one from a breeder or rescue.

I definitely see the terrier, but you're right, no chow there.
Briard?
100% cute though!!!
If you are interested, there are now DNA tests available-- you can search online-- they send you a swab for the dogs cheek. and you send it back to the company. It doesn't give you exact breed, but a percentage of which categories your dog fits into-- costs less than I thought it would.

To me he looks like possibly a Briard mix.
http://dogbreedinfo.com/briard.htm
He could also be a schnauzer/poodle mix, or he may have tibetan terrier in there somewhere.
Here are a few other breeds I see when I look at him:

Ugh, another mix.
Yorki-poo
Yorshire terrier poodle mix.
God I wish these breeders would stop ruining great pure bloodlines with these mixed breeds.
Why did you buy a mixed breed? Whats wrong with a pure breed? And if your answer is allergies, then you shouldnt have gotten a dog, and if you wanted one so bad, there are pure breed hypoalergenic dogs. Mixed breeds could never be in a show, never be recognized by any kennel club, and have loads of health probelems and by buying one, your suporting the industry.
If you got him from a shelter, than good job, and i support that.

The first pic looks like a yorkie. The last pic looks like an Old English sheepdog primarily. I would say yorkie/Old English mix.

The first breed that pops into my head is a Tibetan Terrier: http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/breedinformation/non-sporting/images/tibter.jpg but he, of course, is a mix of some sort.
