this guy and i have been friends on and off all throughout high school. we graduated. during high school though, we had a close relationship but the closest we got to being physical is hugging. we liked each other at one point but it fell through. we reconnected (after not talking for two years) a couple of months ago. i went to a college far away and he stayed at home. he has a gf. but tonight we talked and we said we loved one another. i love him not as if i want to be with him but just...idk. neither one of us could explain it. comments?

Sounds like friendship to me. You simply genuinely like each other.
Contrary to the opinion of many, men and women CAN be friends and not have to have sex. Some of the strongest and longest lasting friendships I've had were with members of the opposite sex. Don't let it scare you and don't make the mistake of trying to turn it into something it isn't. You might trade a really good friend for a fleeting physical encounter that isn't nearly as satisfying in the long run.

From your point of view, it seems like you love him as a friend, probably as a best friend, or an extremely close friend. On his behalf, I don't know if he loves you to the point beyond friendship, and if he does, this could create problems. If he didn't specify, you should get this cleared up before issues arise, because as you said, you don't want to be 'with' him.

Sounds to me as though maybe you are just great friends, which is a good thing for both of you. Don't rush anything....things go much too quickly in this world, just be content being great friends for now....if there is to be more, you will know cause your heart will tell you. I would say that at the moment it's BFF love, once he's single and you are too you could see if you wanted to take it to the next level but until then you're just like brother and sister....ish....
