I just recently became interested in bow hunting.
Before I buy a bow, I would like to know:

1. What brand of bow did you decide to buy?
2. Why did you choose this particular bow?
3. Is there anything about technique that you can tell me?

Not a lady but an archery instructor for 14 years. I strongly suggest you go to a good archery pro shop. Ask questions and try out many different bows.

Most of the answers here won't help you. If you asked "what flavor ice cream should I buy" people will tell you what they like and what works for them. Wouldn't you rather go to an ice cream shop that will let you try all the flavors?

For instance I have taken a cape buffalo and a 13' Kodiak brown bear with my bow. I don't know of two more dangerous animals.

Don't be shy, archery is a fast growing sport with women being the fastest growing segment. Women enjoy hunting, targets, 3-D courses. A lady friend of mine took a 400lb black bear and the next month won a national target competition.

Go to a pro shop that will help you get the gear that fits you and your goals. Go to www.hoyt.com or www.matthews.com and there you can find the nearest dealer who will sell other makes and all the gear you need.

A certified bow hunter and instructor.

P.S. I like Hoyt bows.

ok so you are asking what kind of bow I have and why...there are numerous things that contribute to the choosing of a bow.
it has to fit right and be comfortable in not only total weight, draw weight but also how it feels in your hands.
I personally prefer Martin Bows but my Daughter prefers Hoyt bows. My son has a browning and hubby has a Matthews. We all shoot the same but prefer different bows. Martin is a good bow for the money without breaking the bank (at least here in Michigan).
Do you have any idea what draw weight you are comfortable with? Are you looking for recurve or compound?
Try going to a pro shop in your area and have them help you find what you are looking for. Don't just hit one shop because there are more brands and styles out there and you want to try as many as it takes to get what fits you best
I am a National Archery Association Certified Level 2 coach and have been for several years....If you would like to contact me and ask questions direct feel free to.
I have 2 award winning archers in my home and about 30 in the club I coach at....I think I might be able to answer technique questions but specific questions are easier to answer.
Hope this helps at least a little

Not a lady, but I would just say generally when choosing a bow find one that you can draw comfortably. If you get too high of a draw weight the experience won't be fun and you won't practice as much as you should. If you have an archery store nearby go try some out. As far as technique there really is no difference in technique between men and women. My wife and I shoot tradional equipment (recurve for her) and recurves and longbows for me. Her bow has about a 40 lb draw weight and she has no problems. She does not bow hunt though.

Not a lady but thought I would add my twow cents. I think all of the comments are very good. I got my wife into shooting a bow several years ago. The first thing we did was head to the archery shop. She tried to draw several of the bows and found that even though they were set at the same draw weight, some drew very easy and she would struggle with others. It seemes that the more expensive brands were the worst for her to draw. She settled with a PSE which turned out to be a nice bow for her and loves shooting it.
As far as technique, like it has been said, get with a pro and they will help you tremendously. Good luck.
