What i do during the week, is for five days, each day work about only one muscle group. Monday Pecs, tuesday legs, wensday back and shoulders, thursday bisceps triceps, and friday abs. Is this smart or what. I also do about 5 different exercises for each muscle, just so they get a real burn.

There are two schools of thought on weight training: One is that you want to isolate muscles when you work them out, so that they get bigger faster. The other is that you want to exercise groups of muscles together, so they learn to operate in conjunction with one another.

If you're just going for looks, do isolation type of exercises (one muscle group one day, another the next, etc.). But, if you're going for athletic performance, exercise each of the muscle groups at every workout.

The problem with spot exercising is that, while you may be able to lift more weight during a particular exercise, your muscles aren't working together as a group. So, if you attempt to do some kind of athletic endeavor (play a sport, for example), you might find yourself more prone to injury of an isolated muscle group.

When you work all of your muscle groups in one exercise - called core training - you are training the muscles to work together to complete whatever athletic act you are attempting.

Most athletic trainers for team sports (particularly football) emphasize core training when putting together a workout regimen for the players.

There are certain exercises which can work on all muscles of your body. Why make a workout schedule for each muscle when you can do that with just an exercise? Add it with proper diet and lots of patience and you'll get that toned muscles you've always wanted, just like mine.
