Why are people saying this? I've read the bill (California's SB 777) and I can't seem to find the sections where it says this.

Can somebody point me to the section in the bill that bans the terms "Mom" and "Dad" in schools?

Also, does anybody think it's an interesting coincidence that some Christians are so upset at Senate Bill number 777?

It adds sexual orientation to the list of non-discrimination... the Mom and Dad stuff is a lie, imagine that?!?

Don't they have a commandment about lying?

Some religious foo's decided that since this bill disallows bigotry in an entire STATE they must do something to stop it. Imagine! How can they implement a theocracy without bigotry? So they took the fact that treating those of a different sexual orientation is indeed prejudiced and made it about the gays disallowing "Mom & Dad" because it suits their sick, destructive purposes. Freaking fundies. This newspaper is inciteful and thus illegal but fundies never did understand that "free speech" didn't include the right start a riot or make ignorance more wide-spread.

Whoa. I hadn't even read the article yet (just the bill):

Ah, that was an easy one to call. These sickos spread lies about everything they can and the people who believe them are the most dangerous people in the world.

This is a lie and an anti-gay scare tactic. If you look back at the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) of the 1970's, you will find radical anti-gay activists like Phyllis Schlafly claiming that giving women equal rights would lead to gay marriage and everyone using the same restrooms. It's the same tactic--pick the most outrageous claim and repeat it over and over until people believe it. Never mind that it has no basis in reality. The problem with the anti-gay, pro-homophobia groups in California (where I live) is that they are losing so often that they are becoming desperate. Rather than protect students from discrimination and bullying, they prefer to make incendiary, outlandish claims in a misguided effort to normalize homophobia. The sad thing is that their sin of homophobia is more important to them than protecting our State's school children.

I made the same point. Why people with access to almost unlimited knowledge can't check the facts spouted by a tabloid is beyond me.
That article just took one true fact (no discrimination towards anyone) and twisted it out of shape to cater to the site's view of the world.

I have kids in the California school system and I have not heard anything of this nature.

Something that idiotic would be on the front page of every newspaper with the words "retards manage to do it again" written over and over again.

Sadly, there are many people who don't bother to check facts when they hear a talking point spewed by people who believe as they do.

How about this SB777
212.3. "Religion" includes all aspects of religious belief,
observance, and practice and includes agnosticism and atheism.
