A person I know did it and it worked, except it caused her to have bad skin (acne), as soon as she stopped, she gained all the weight back.

It works pretty well, as long as you strictly adhere to it. But, the diet is kind of a starvation diet, which is keeping you in a state of ketosis. This is when the body is hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) to the point where your liver begins breaking down fat into fatty acids, which your body uses instead of the sugars.

Eating low or no carbohydrates will reduce your blood sugar, which is why ketosis occurs. This results in a feeling of being hungry even though you have eaten, which can be a bit discomforting (not only does your stomach feel uncomfortable because you're hungry, but also because you're full). It also results in a feeling of tiredness and low energy, until you get used to being in a state of lower blood sugar.

For the first coupla-few weeks, you'll see the best results. Then, you kind of plateau. If you reach a target, you can go into a kind of maintenance mode where you can eat some carbs. But, if you go back to a high carb diet after being on Atkins, you will gain the weight back.

i can't say i've done the exact "Atkins" diet, but i do follow a low-carb diet. This isn't to "lose weight"...i follow it as a way of life. It's just how i've eaten for the past 5 years. If i can make a suggestion, however...if you choose to adopt a low-carb diet, be it Atkins or otherwise, be sure to give yourself one or two days a week to break the rules.

Basically, low-carb diets are "catabolic" which means they "breakdown, breakdown, breakdown"...but never "build back up". This is great if you just want to lose a ton of weight and bodyfat in 3 months and then go to a more normal diet. However, if you want a diet to follow for life, you need to incorporate carbs as around 10% of your meals. That comes out to about 3 meals a week.

That's what i've done, and i'm a very active MMA fighter, kettlebell trainer, and sports-nutrition nut, haha. My cholesterol is super low, testosterone level is super high, and i walk around at 11% bodyfat. It's really, really worked for me. i hope it helps you to reach all your goals as well...good luck!

A former coworker of mine did the Atkins and when I saw her she looked great. I haven't seen her in a long time so I can't tell you if this has long term results. I personally don't like diets. I thinks it best to just change your eating habits and exercise.
