People who constantly quote the bible aren't people, they're just tools of christianity.

After reading some of the other answers, I'd like to respond about the comments as to why we may quote scriptures.

In my case, I often will back up what I say or mean with a citation. In the case of a religious discussion, it makes sense to back up my thoughts with a quotation which may illustrate my point, or in reverse, the example may help clarify a verse.

If a person uses a reference guide, how does that make them weak? A guidebook or a reference guide gives us an authoritative reference. Without a Bible, our religion would be based merely on intuition or guesswork as to what we think God is saying or thinking. By using a Bible, we have a resource guide to refer back to. For those of us who take the Bible seriously, we do not want to do something that specifically is against the Bible.

Now, we could get into a whole discussion on what is right or wrong to follow in the Bible. But here is a synopsis if you will.
Beatitudes and the basic concepts - applicable
Mosaic Law - not necessarily relevant to today.

Why, because the Law was written for a specific reason. To give the Jewish people specific instructions on how to follow God. When you get to the time of Christ, you then realize that the law was superceded by the intentions and the general concepts. Why would I say this? Because when you look at the Pharisees, they followed the law to the "T", but missed the whole concept of WHY those laws were made. The Pharisees in the Bible were called hypocrites (actors) because they would follow the laws without regard to love or compassion. They were so focused on following the rules that they forgot to love others (that's why the Parable of the Good Samaritan is so applicable).

Now, whether you consider me weak because I can quote and understand scripture is up to you, but it doesn't matter to me. The opinion I truly value on whether I'm weak or strong is God, because he knows my heart and my reasons for doing these things.

This is such a good question, with lots of interesting responses!

I don't think it makes you weak, but I don't think it makes you particularly effective either. Quoting scripture to a non-believer is about as effective as quoting American law in a foreign court. You'd better hope that judge has an open mind and a loving heart!!

I'm a Christian (not a member of a particular denomination though) and I believe in what the Bible teaches. I just read the book, pray and let it impress my heart. I can't recall a time that I ever quoted the Bible to someone unless they specifically asked me to. If my daily acts of love don't do the "preaching" for me, then I probably shouldn't be talking in the first place!!

I guess that depends on what you mean. If, for example, you ask some for their own opinion, in their own words, and they respond by quoting the Bible, I think you might be able to interpret that as a kind of weakness.

On the other hand, if you simply throw the quote in to back up your opinion, then I would think not. Quoting the Bible doesn't make you right, of course, but not necessarily weak.

If you quote The Holy Bible all the time, it's because you are trying to receive God's blessings and use it as a shield against those who reject faith. It is a source of strength.
Allah didn't send it for nothing, it's part of the help that he has prescribed for all of us Monotheists.
The Holy Bible is medicine for our Mind, body, soul and hearts.
And yes it does help us when we are weak. Only a God lover can quote The Holy Bible.

The Holy Bible. 1 Thessalonians 5. verse 16 thru 17.
16.Pray continually; 17.give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

The Holy Quran. Surah 2 (The Heifer) verse 110. And be steadfast in prayer And regular in charity: and whatever good Ye send forth for your souls Before you, ye shall find it With Allah: for God sees Well all that ye do.

I'd say that you are very STRONG. The Bible, having 66 books and all. Searching for that one scripture that has to do with the YA question? That would take me a while. The one who does the work, though, would be very strong faith-wise. Trying not to interpret wrongly by quoting directly from the Bible also seems very faithful, thus, strong to me.

Was Jesus Christ weak?
He quoted Scripture all the time and even said that what he teaches and speaks is not of his "own origination" but he spoke what the Father taught him. (John 7:17, 18; 11:51; 14:10; 18:34)

I disagree, our beliefs mean nothing if they don't line up with the bible. Gods ways are true and we should believe what His word says. The bible says, thy word have a hid in my heart that I might not sin against you.

if you quote the bible all the time it means that you are a bit of a preacher, showoff, and in a way shy..and scared to voice your own personal opinions than again if you believe everything in the bible than feel free to quote it however it lacks personality.
