Because it's a fun, cultural thing to do.
Many people become concerned about Halloween and fear that Christians who celebrate it are somehow in league with the Devil.
These folks tend to think that Christianity is some sort of moral code that we must obey to avoid being contaminated. Christianity is about living in the grace that you have been given.
Jesus ate with sinners, prostitutes and tax collectors -- he didn't run around worrying that he might get dirty. He demonstrated that we have a bigger task -- to shine the light of the Gospel into darkened corners... not run around showing how righteous we are.
All the best... and Happy Halloween!

There are 2 kinds of christian churches. Those which have crossed spiritual Jordan and those who have not. Those that have not often participate and even encourage worldy activities. Even if they are contrary to the faith.
Now as for why? It's the same reasons that Lot and his family became ;ess spiritual when they lived in Sodom and Gomorrah, by yoking with sin, it makes you less hloy.

Beats me I never understood that either and I am a Christian. Nor do I understand why they sponsor easter egg hunts. Somethings just do not belong in the church. If the church wants to do something positive for the kids then get involved with the local community and join forces with them. Just keep the church for church things. like prayer and worship.

Those.... PSEUDO Christian Churches are Really NOT.... Christian!
Here is Why.....!
(Jam 1:22) But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
(James 1:23-24) For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man studying his natural face in a mirror.
(Jam 1:24) For he studied himself and went his way, and immediately he forgot what he was like.
AND.....
(1John 2:19) They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they were of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out so that it might be revealed that they were not all of us.
Thanks for Asking! RR

I don't know any that sponsor haunted houses. Can you name one? I know they have "harvest parties" but, they don't do anything like Halloweenish, goulish, satanish stuff. I know my church doesn't.
We celebrate the Harvest, which, by the way, is in the Bible.

We have a Harvest Party. Lots of food, fun, games and candy for the whole family. We had ~5,000 last year.

Haunted houses are fun, and fortunately there are a few churches that don't mind having fun.

Well, I have only seen one of these and it was called "A Trip Through Hell" so you can imagine what it was intended for.
Other than that, what would be the issue? It's a holiday for dressing up and getting candy. Woohoo.

Because they are sorely lacking in discernment.
Halloween is evil and no Christian should have anything to do with it.

For those who have said... work of the devil... they have not done their homework...
Organized religion is in place for one reason and one reason only.... MONEY
I say to those that claim that I am wrong.... "start putting empty envelopes with your name on it in the collection plate, and find out how unwelcoming a church can really be!"
