At which general age would you say they are? Because if a 5 year old claims he believes in God it doesn't really warrant much respect as an opinion because he also probably believe Santa Clause and the Boogyman exist too.

Just because a 5 year old believes in something does not mean that is not true. Would you say that a 5 year old who believes his parents love him not have very much credibility? To have a full grasp on God's reality well I don't think we ever.

But since you asked for a general age I will give you one, I would say depending on the individual 12-15.

It's a tough call and probably really needs to be determined for each individual child. I'd say a little bit after they stop believing in Santa or maybe later.

My brother is 6 years old and believes in God and has accepted Christ into his heart. Jesus said this...
" Let the little children come to me,and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not recieve the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. Luke 18:15-17

if you really have read the gospels- Matthew, Mark , Luke and John you would not have to ask this question. Time and time again Jesus welcomed little children, because their faith was purer than us adults who are set in our ways. Jesus said, "come to me as little children" so to answer your question- maturity has nothing to do with the age of a child or person- I know people older than I am , and I am almost 50- and they are not maturity at all, and some teenagers are more mature. My kids accepted Christ at the age of 5 and guess what, I did not force them, they did it all on their own, and to see those precious children growing in Christ was and is amazing.

No, and that is why child indoctrination is so evil. Around 3/4 of the world will continue the beliefs of their parents in some form into adulthood. We are evolutionarily trained to take in information with a very high rate to learn our cultures, and when a large part of that information coming in is religious indoctrination, well, it's not psychologically healthy.

Religious belief is fine, but when one indoctrinates their child they are making one of the most personal decisions a person came make for them...

Young people don't have the mental ability to think rationally about complex issues such as god. I think that kids should only make up thier minds by about age 12-13, and even then, they should keep thier mind open.

I definetly believe that they can, because one's learning capabilities may be different than anothers. Such as I
myself became a Christian when I was 5.

If a child believes in god, it is because he has been taught that. If left to determine for himself, there is nothing to indicate that there is a god and no reason for anyone to think there is except for the myths that have been spread.
