Ah yes: German Shedders. Kept indoors, they tend to shed constantly but still blow their coats from time to time. Regular brushing keeps the amount down until they blow but then you will need a rake (looks like a metal loop with teeth) to get tons of undercoat fast. Nothing prevents shedding nor should it so aim to manage it.

The GSD is a "double-coated" dog with an undercoat and guard hairs.

The guard hairs will be shed all year. The undercoat is "blown" twice a year.

German Shepherds shed heavily all year round and need weekly brushing. As a matter of fact, the more you brush the less they shed.

best way to cure shedding is brushing. If he's a heavy shedder, I'd Brush him every night... and when you're done brushing, collect the loose hair left behind by wetting your hand and petting him from head to toe and under the belly.

The hair will stick to the wet hand.

Daily brushings is not only a bonding experience, but it helps with shedding.

Nothing is going to stop shedding. GSD's shed like crazy.
Call around to local groomers and see if any of them offer what is called a FURminator Shed Less treatment. Its just a certain shampoo, solution and tool that will really get all that dead undercoat out. It helps to reduce shedding 60-80%..IF you do it on a regular basis (like once a month) Also, of course, regular brushing at home is going to help alot too. Pick up a shedding blade or a zoom groom.

GSDs are notorious shedders.
Even if you find some dietary suppliment, or physical therapy that reduces the amount of shedding, you will probably still own a dog that sheds a great deal.

Just brush him lots. Seriously, it's really the only thing that produces any effect whatsoever.
