Does any body think these self-rightious, arrogant, finger pointers are just as bad as the Bible thumpers that yell "turn or burn" on the street corner?

I've noticed many non-smokers have steered clear of the self-rightous, bible thumper analogy.

If someone is really offensive, I like to remind them that smoking is still legal in many places. So if I chose to smoke in a private, legal place that's my business.

Amen and let's light up! You can't spank your child, the N word is now worse than my all time favorite F word, and light up a cigarette and people look at you like you were slamming heroin. It's much better to let your kid run amok in the a store unattended or get just a "time out" for them dashing in the street in front of a car. Where in your house can you put a child for "time out" that they can't find fun? Guarenteed, that kid will run in the street again! In the midst of everything being racial, why is it only acceptable for a certain race to say a word (and they do use it often). Racism at it's best. And you pompous people who gives us the "stink eye" when we light up ANYWHERE, don't you think your SUV's emit more pollution and carcinagens than a hundred smokers? Maybe when I see you driving on the freeway, I'll give YOU the "stink eye!!!!"

There will always be people who are very vocal about their beliefs. There will always be people who throw paint on your new fur coat. There will always be people who picket in front of KFC about how the chickens are abused. There will always be random strangers who call CPS on moms who let their 10 year old play in the park alone. Likewise, there will always be people who hate smoking.

How do the non-smokers know you smoke if you do so only in private? Do you come into public places reeking of smoke? Or do you smoke outside, and they walk by and smell it?

I am 8 months pregnant and have a very sensitive nose because of it. My husband smokes outside only, and never in the car. He 'airs out' before coming inside, and I almost never smell it on him. He is a very clean smoker.

On the other hand, there are some people who come into my work who just REEK like they smoke in their closet with the door closed, letting their bodies and clothes absorb 100% of the odor. In cases of people like that, just because they smoke in private doesn't mean squat when everyone in a 20 foot radius can smell it.

Some people do have a right to hate smoking. People have lost loved ones to lung cancer. People who have never smoked a day in their life have gotten lung cancer from second hand smoke. Who are you to say they are arrogant? They are arrogant because other people's bad habits gave them a death sentence? Hardly.

If you have a problem with non-smokers being rude to you, don't make your smoking public knowledge. Smoke outdoors only away from others. Then no one will be able to tell you are a smoker and will then have nothing bad to say about smoking to you.

Since smokers rights and business rights are being trampled on by these militant "do-gooders", I don't think ignoring them is a good idea.

It all goes back to the second hand smoke studies and TRUTH ads. Nobody cared if someone chose to smoke before the propaganda came out. Now if you smoke you are killing other people, you are fueling and industry that intentionally murders it's customers.

Sad that some people fall for it.

And are you any better than the non smokers or bible thumpers by insulting them right back? Just rise above this nonsense and ignore it.

Probably because they are interfering bullies, busybodies or do-gooders who think that the current anti-smoking ethos entitles them to indulge their unpleasant proclivity while feeling self-righteous at the same time.

How private is private? If you are smoking in a restroom (or other place) that is plainly marked "No Smoking" then people should give you a hard time for polluting their air. Cigarette smoke endangers the health of everyone who breathes it.

I don't smoke but I don't have anything against people who do. As long as they keep it away from me and my unborn child I'm fine with it. Most of my family smokes...my brother does it because he thinks he looks cool. (I think that's a dumb reason but whatever)

If you are smoking in private, then no one should have a problem with it.
The problem is most people who smoke dont do it in private, they do it where other people have to smell it.
