America needed someone like Patton right after WWII. I don't think that we'll ever get someone like him. Patton was a soldier. Our present militarists are a bunch of cry babies, only think of retirement, write books, and get paid as war analysts on TV.

In this type of war George S. Patton would be a dinosaur. This war doesn't involve massed troops with armored and air support going into combat against similarly massed and supported troops from the other side. Most of the successful actions in this war will be done by small troop units (platoon down to squad size) landing somewhere, kicking in the door and shooting people in the head.
But, we do have an excellent general to lead in this sort of war. He's the co-author of FM 3-24, the new manual on counter-insurgency warfare. The doctrine laid out in that manual is being put to use throughout the range of places where U.S. troops are carrying out interdiction missions. But, the media being what it is, that facet of the man's background never seems to work its way into their reporting. He's David Petraeus!

Patton had problems with politicians in world war 2.
He could not last 10 minutes in today's media.
This country has not had a very good record of how the media depicts conflicts in the last 40 years.
There are lots of good officers who could get the job done, but the civilians who are their bosses won't let them.

yes patton would help so much. now to many of our military generals are so worried about what the new york times will say about what they are doing, than focusing on winning as fast as possible.

Politics cannot be aside, even generals are politicians in their own way. However we do need a good knowledgeable B or better GPA president.

America has really good military leadership, what we need is a commander in chief who knows what he is doing.
