What exactly is linux? And is it better or worse than it's competitor?

Everything has its pros and cons.
Ive used all of them since they were created. And Im still not ready to declare a total "winner".

For ME it goes like this......
Linux is what I use on my servers. I find it more stable, more powerful, more secure, and it runs that way on less hardware than a windows machine needs.

Windows is what I use on my desktops. Its got more toys, its prettier, runs more games, and works better on the newest latest hardware that is available.

Mac is abit of both and I prefer it for portables and laptops.
And Unix I prefer at work for really large servers.
Vista Im putting of for awhile because I think its good but there isnt enough available yet that makes it a worthwhile change.

Linux is a computer operating system.
Windows is the competing operating system.

Many different opinions over which is better.

Don't get caught up in all the smoke and mirrors. Linux isn't perfect.
