Be ruthless. Stand in middle of room, and look at colors, patterns, artwork.
What do you really like? What do you have too much of, or not enough of? What do you hate?
Can you re-arrange or assign some items to another room?
[ for instance, put flowers in a bedroom with other pastels;
put animal prints in a den or family room with browns, tans, and blacks. ]
Pick what you want to emphasize, and reproduce the pattern or color [ like a cheetah rug and animal print pillows to emphasize the animal prints; or a flowered rug and pillows in flower colors from the art ].
Add some shine [ brass, chrome, copper ] that goes well with the colors. Maybe a framed mirror over sofa or across from windows.
Potted trees or plants in a texture that goes with room [ wicker or rattan for animal; pottery to match flowers. ]
Add some framed photos for tables, and candles that reflect colors used.

If there is windows do a great treatment by mixing materials and layering drapes ,that match the decor. You could also add an area rug to bring a focal point to the floor.If you are feeling energetic paint the room to match furniture etc.. Add some plants and you should be good to go.
