I was raised catholic but I was only one by name. When I turned 23 I began searching. I surveyed Buddhism which I found very interesting but after one year or so I felt just as empty as ever. One day I was drawn to a little piece of paper on the ground. I picked it up and I read these words: "IF YOU WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT JESUS CHRIST, ASK GOD, NOBODY ELSE."
I thought it would be a reasonable thing to do. I said to myself, If God is there, he will hear me and surely He will answer me. So I did ask Him to tell me the truth about Jesus Christ. Though I was raised Catholic, I had never taken what I had been told too seriously because the focus had been on Mary and the saints, purgatory and hell. Somehow these things did not appeal to me at all.
So every night, before I would fall asleep, I would talk to God, asking Him to reveal to me the truth about Jesus Christ. Shortly after my attention was drawn to a book I saw on display at the Canadian Bible Society. I read that book and that year I purchased more than 70 books from that Society and I also purchased a Bible and read it from cover to cover.
Jesus Christ became real to me. I kept saying to myself, He is alive! He is alive! I remember writing these words in big letters on snow banks at night! :) Jesus became real to me and from then on, I went from grace to grace and from light to a greater light! I thank God for His longsuffering but especially for his unspeakable gift: all the merits and love of Christ!
Right now I am not attending any denomination but I have a lot of respect for the writings of Ellen G. White. I truly believe this woman was inspired by God to prepare a people for the second coming of Christ!

HMMM, let me see.... I am now a foaming at the mouth, rabid, against all organized religions... atheist... which... contrary to popular belief, has nothing to do with my belief in an afterlife, a spiritual life, a 'soul', or anything else, for that matter. I just couldn't go on believing the absolute rubbish I grew up with any more, even though I loved my faith while I still had it.
I came to the conclusion that if there WERE a god (for lack of a better word) our concept of that idea was the most insultingly demeaning and diminishing version of it imaginable. Nothing I would consider so infinitely wonderful could possibly resemble the despicably egotistical sadist that nearly all religions portray, however they dress the concept up.
If I absolutely HAD to belong to something for some strange reason, it would definitely be Buddhism. It exemplifies the best of what religion purports to be, and actually practices the very things most of the others only preach.
This is from someone who desperately wanted to become a nun, too, many moons ago ~ wanting to die at an early age like St. Therese of Lisieux, and of course be canonized and become a saint to boot...! BUT.. that was before I discovered that I not only had a brain, but was living in a world which contained amazingly interesting (and deeply spiritual without having to talk about it) people who had learned not WHAT to think, but HOW to think!

As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.
Insha'Allah, I was raised a Catholic (even spent six years in a monastic order and studied for the priesthood), left and became a Buddhist.
One day, while in a secular bookstore, I found myself holding an English translation of the Holy Qur'an. IN two weeks I read it from cover to cover. For two more weeks, as I re-read the Holy Qur'an, I searched every Muslim website I could find. then I found the closest mosque and made my profession of faith and have not looked back since.
Ash hadu an laa ilaha ill-Allaah, wahadau la sharika lah wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa Rasuluh.
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that He has no associates (partners, equals or off spring) and I bear witness that Muhammad (salaahu 'alaihi wasallaam) is His slave and His Messneger/Prophet.
Insha'Allah, I am a Muslim.
Alhumdulillah!
Ma'a salaam.

Catholic.
I'll forever be Catholic because it's more of a way of life than just somewhere to go on Sunday mornings and listening to someone talk about the bible.

Buddhist, but I still have much respect for the Catholic faith. I left the Catholic church one week before I was to be confirmed when the priest said my dog wouldn't go to Heaven. After studying many beliefs, I found Buddhism to be the best path for me.
Peace.
