Mice living in deserts survive eating dry seeds without drinking water. Dry is a relative term because a seed can be up to 50% water. Water independence is a necessity in this biome. Most of the animals living in th desert are nocturnal, emerging at dusk to forage and avoiding the greatest heat.
Kangaroo rats and their desert cousins, pocket mice have external pouches to carry seeds they gather. This way they do not open their mouths & loose water for every seed they find. They put in their pocket to return underground to eat.
Their kidneys are very efficient at retaining water and excreting only waste material.
Last, they have structures in their nostrils that reabsorb water vapor from the air they exhale.
