Alot of times, in the Religion and Spirituality section, when I ask a question, I'll add in my details that I would appreciate it if people would be respectful of the ideas and beliefs of others. Why would anyone find this to be offensive?
Any ideas about this?
I have also added, at the bottom of some of my questions, that I will not consider "bashers" or trolls for "Best Answer".
Do you think this is impolite?
Why or why not?

No, it's not your imagination. But some people will take a comment such as that to be a challenge, and give a rude answer anyway.

On the other hand, if you DIDN'T include that in your comments, you might get more rude answers.

Just ignore them. That's what I've started to do. I thumbs-down the rude comments automatically to get them out of the way. That way I can read the REAL answers.

Some people's "idententities" are firmly rooted in the religion that was given to them. it's the same thing with art and culture- ever try to tell a Yankee's fan that their team sucks? (don't do this!)
the point is that it's not the religion that they're getting all hot and bothered about- it's the fact that they are re-examining themselves- breaking out of their comfortable trance that gets them worried. Imagine the tension somebody might feel if their whole life and perspective is built around something that people are questioning?

Of course it's impolite.

There are always gonna be bashers, smart alec's, and just plain disrespectful people. What we have to do is "weed out" the good ones. Someone got upset one time when I used that term, (weed out). They acted like they never heard it before. That's because they were probably too young to have ever heard it.

Think of it like gardening. Pick through the weeds and find the person who best suits your question.

Good luck and God bless.

Yes, some people are. It is better to ignore them. If a person cannot respect others view, he is living in a jungle.

"Please be respectful" is useless.

If I was going to be a jerk, your request won't stop me.
If I was going to be polite, you're being patronising.

And saying "No bashers or trolls will get Best Answer" does nothing either, since they don't care about the points as much as the reactions.

Yes, some people are far to sensitive.

I think what you have asked is fair enough, I sometimes do the same thing
