My new boyfriend is going through a lot right now and I am starting to notice signs of depression. (drinking a lot, trying to withdraw from friends, sleeping late, not worried about making it to work on time etc.) How can I help him?

I know the issues he has had as we have talked openly about them. Today he was fired from his job and he's talking it very hard. After I had him cheered up a lil bit (thanks to some skillz :P) a friend called him and wore him down again and he decided to go to the bar. I tried as hard as I could to get him to not drink, but he went ahead with it anyway.

Leave him before he kills you both.

Ahmm. Sometimes, a SURPRISE "HELPING HAND", at the weirdest time, can get his attention back to reality. I'll bet his self winding watch, has a run down spring. Something IS on his mind, that's causing him to short out. It's probably something really simple. We've got a tendency to worry about the stupidest things. Big important things are typically not the culprid. He doesn't need to be hypnotized, to find this out. Just something to loosen up his thoughts, and convey what the hangup is. He'll crack, and spill what's on his mind.

I am no professional but I would try getting him back to doing things he loves doing, some with you and some by himself, really try to focus on what he needs and wants but at the same time make sure he still respects your feelings, he may be going through a rough time but you need to remind him that your here for him and you only want to help!

Looks like he needs a break. Tell him to get orginized, go one day at a time, and most of all have fun. Don't let him eat Sugar in the morning because he will be messed up for the rest of the day instead make him protiens like eggs for breakfast.

Try having a "heart to heart" about what is going on. Tell him that you think he might be depressed. If he is the type-like some guys are-that has to see proof..do a search on google for symptoms of depression so that he will see he might have it. Urge him to make an appointment with his Dr.

If you haven't already, talk to him about it. Sometimes people aren't even aware that they're becoming clinically depressed. You, being his girlfriend, can be his number one support through everything, but he has to know that something is wrong. From there, you and him can go anywhere you'd like, preferably to therapy or a doctor. Mentioning it is absolutely necessary, though. Otherwise things will spiral out of control.

try to help him . Help him with what's goig on. Depression well personally i would just try to help him be with friends. Not getting to work on time. well wake him up try to get him there at the right time. Depression is hard on everyone you have to help him realize what he's going through and how he's going to help it. Somtimes the only way to actually help someone through depression is letting them figure it out and help themout on the way.

Try making him go to a therapist. Encourage him to do the right thing. Call in every hour or so to make sure he is doing the right thingss

the best way to help him in my opinion is to ask him if he wants to talk about his issues , how it makes him feel etc. if the signs sart getting severe , then refer him to a therapist ( with whom he can talk to and get things off his chest) or a Psychologist ( who can medically treat him for it , but this is if it is SERIOUS). Though he might seem not too responsive, tough love will make him better and will strghthen your relationship once you get through everything. Good Luck

Sticking by him if you are close, and perhaps just trying to get him out of bed and go do things. communication is definately a key. my sis had this prob with her bf, he started doing the same. maybe encourage your bf to get a new job, try something new, things like that. add some variety to his life.

you need to let him know you are worried, that could wake him up to know that there are people who really care about him. ask him what the problem is. TALK. if he doesnt feel like talking be patient. take him out for something fun, that could get his mind off of things.
