No!
But there should be a worldwide ban on stupid people owning and breeding PIT Bulls.
Edit* Glittering Star
I would love to prove you wrong And I can.
I would love for you to meet my dogs.
Also, Pits weren't bred to be aggressive towards humans, that was something that was bred out of them.
Please educate yourself on this breed of dog before.

Banning ownership or breeding of pit bulls makes as much sense as banning spoons and forks for making people fat.
Absolutely NOT!! I'm all for stricter guidelines on who can own an breed ANY dog!! I'm sure most of you have seen the bumper sticker "Why Breed or Buy When Shelter Pets Die?".
American Pits, Staffordshires, Standard Pits are NOT the problem. Irresponsible and uneducated owners are the reason for the negative perception of pit bulls.
Educated individuals that understand the breed know that these dogs are very good dogs. I've had rescue pits from shelters and have raised them puppies with infants and toddlers. They are very good dogs. They do need a firm hand and are definitely not for just anyone.... but they are great family pets with the right family

No, not a national ban.. But we do need better control over who is breeding them, and what they are breeding them for.. People need to learn how to evaluate their litters and judge perspective buyers and decide which dogs should go to which homes, as well as which homes shouldn't even have such a strong breed...
Far too many dogs are selling puppies to anyone that comes along.. no regard at all to the person and their experience or their plans with the dog.. If breeders spent more time making sure they were selling to the right people, this whole thing wouldn't even be an issue.. Inexperienced owners should NOT own strong breeds. If you can't figure out how to housetrain, or teach a puppy not to bite your hands... you shouldn't own a strong dog.

I think we need to drastically reduce the number of Pit Bulls/AmStaffs being bred. Even some of the "top" reputable breeders are not doing it ethically. I think there should only be American Staffordshire Terriers bred, and NOT American Pit Bull Terriers. They were once the same breed, but the AmStaffs have much less aggressive lines and pit fighting in their genes.
TSome of those who show and breed their Pits also do not raise them correctly. They may not fight their dogs, but they also do not socialize nor train them correctly. This to me is unacceptable.
I believe the AmStaff and pit bull people need to "merge" in a way.
But then again, I am all for a major moratorium on 99% of all breeding that occurs in this nation.

NO
PUNISH THE DEED -- NOT THE BREED!!!
I have to muzzle more shih tzus, chihuahuas, daschunds, poodles, shnauzers, and other "acceptable" breeds just to examine them. Very rarely do I have to muzzle a pit bull.
Thier agression is the product of thier upbringing, not the breed. You can have a Labrador with a worse temperment than a Pit Bull ( believe me-- I've had to help euthanize a Lab who was attacking children)
Any breed can be taught to be bad.
Where would the banning end? Which breed should we target next? What about all those responsible Pit owners out there? Do they line up to have thier dogs killed just because they are Pit Bulls?
The concept is assinine.

I agree with the top two. But I would like to see a better control of Breeders of such dogs. Aggression is genetic and is past down from the parents to the pups.
One needs to see the parents before by these dogs. If the parents show any aggression. DON'T buy the puppy.
I believe there ought to be laws against breeding aggressive pits.

I love "that guy"! NO ban. Breeding bans are so short sighted and often just bad- like AB1634 in California. Ugh. Ignorance and fear do not build good societies. Education does.
The pit bull was not bred to be vicious. It was bred to be tenacious. It is a working dog. It is one of the most versatile working dogs and was of great value to the working man.
Read "The Working Pit Bull" by Diane Jessup for an education. I picked it up while I was browsing at the bookstore. It was a fabulously written book. Loads of documentation, history, beautiful photos, etc. Ahem... that was for "Glittering Star" btw. :)
So what's the solution? Not monitoring or forcing breeders to register. If you want that go live in a Socialist country. I am amazed so many people think we need permits to live life. What is needed is MORE FREEDOM for animal control officers to do stings/raids (which means more money for more officers). The behaviorist at my shelter said he'd love to do stings all day long but he can't because the money is just not there.
The intentions of people who want to ban breeding is well intentioned but their desire to have control over people is such that the solutions they come up with are often detrimental to both the dog and our society. IMHO

No. Absolutely not. I work for a pit bull and all breed rescue and I have 3 Pit Bulls of my own. I do not support any kind of beed specific legislation. I do, however, support stricter leash laws, pet spay/neuter laws, anti-tethering and penning laws, breeding regulations, and screening and education for anyone wishing to own ANY large breed dog. The breed is not the problem....the problem is on the other end of the leash.

No I think there should be a ban on certain people reproducing though.LOL. I think if they are doing it only for the sole purpose of bettering the breed and have done all the homework and SCREENING the potential buyers and have a buy back agreement ( like with any breed). Their are good breeders who only breed for the quality of the breed. Then there are idiots who only "think" there is money in it...well hate to tell ya they haven't done their homework because there isn't much profit if any at all to cover the cost it costs to raise and care for the ***** during her pregancy and the after care not to even mention the puppies and all their needs to be cared for properly.

No. First it wouldn't work - it would just drive pit bull breeding underground, second, pit bulls are trained and taught to be aggressive and dangerous - they aren't naturally that way. You can bring up a pit bull, like any other dog, to be sweet natured and loving.
The breed shouldn't be punished because of what people do to them.
