About a week if it is blatant.
Maybe a little longer if they are a little more subtle about it.
THEN I wear my big boots and walk all over THEM.

Wow. What an interesting question.
I have let some people practically demoralise me before I've done something about it.
I have also stopped people right in their tracks for looking at me the wrong way.
I'd have to say that from my personal experience, it's the people you love, or want, or desire that can get away with the most.
Also, because essentially, I'm not a bad person, even if the offending retard deserves it, I usually feel at least a little bad after ripping them a new a*s*s *h*0Le.
I guess it's just because I have a conscience.
I am a true believer in vengeance, and I think that regardless of weather or not you are the catalyst, it's important to witness the angst of those who have wronged you.

I use to have a 'best' friend for about 3 years when I moved to my new house and over the years I developed alot of trust in him. After we split up from secondary school we both went to different locations although he still lived realitively close to me so we saw each other. But that's when things turned sour.
Long story short he f**ked his life up quite a bit, just because he wanted to be like everyone else. He once sold a ring of mine which he stole, but what really made me angry is when he slept round mine and stole £40 from me along with another mate of mine and split the money 50:50 so they could get some weed.
I flipped, I got so mad to the point I assulted both of them with a baseball bat and mugged my money back for being so disloyal, and that was the end of that, sure I got put on a disciplinary order but hey I think it was important to show them I'm no push-over. I haven't heard from them since.
Sometimes you've just gotta fight, that's the way life is I'm afraid, so the minute I suspect someone is treating me like unfairly, I let them know about it.

I listen for a while for the sake of being polite, then I may counter with a witty comment. If they still are annoying me I may hint at the fact that I am aware of what they are doing. Then I would just leave if they are still there. There is no point in tolerating the company of negative people.

When you had enough, to just stand up for yourself, and to get them to stop. This is not promoting violence. I had a co worker that talked down to me, well I let it pass the first time the second time, I told her don't do it again. I told her I was not going to put up with it, and we can make it a problem. She no longer works for the company to make a long story short. Nothing I did in a malevolent way to get her fired she did it to herself, however its funny how things work out.

You should never let people walk over you, but rather than fight back, try coming up with a reasonable compromise that shows you're standing up for yourself. If you don't stand up for yourself, others will assume that you're fine with how they're acting.
Maybe saying something like "that doesn't work for me, how about this instead?" shows you're not going to be walked on, but you're also not coming across as if you're fighting. Would that work for you?

I don't let anyone walk all over me. Otherwise people think you have the word MUG printed across your forehead and will treat you as a doormat.
I'm firm but polite with people.

If I feel they are trying to control me - then I fob them off in the first instance.
I learned a long time ago - NEVER to allow people to walk over you. They will only control you if you LET them.

i did it for ten bloody years. i didnt see it happening . how thick and stupid can i be? i realised oh so slowly what was going on after i drove 7 miles to a job . only to be told i should be 15 miles in the opposite direction. at 6 am this wasnt good news. then i realised it was because my husband had gone to my bag, taken my phone, as usual, turned it off as usual and put it on charge ,as usual, causing me to miss important messages. he also had to be in control of my car keys so when i was rushing off to a job, i had no keys.i had to wake him at 5.30 am to demand my keys and that was my fault that they were in his pocket. everything i put down in the house, he moved. it doesnt happen so much now. i fight back
