"Question with boldness even the existence of god; because if there be one, he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear."
~Thomas Jefferson

Jefferson was a lot smarter than i was and phrased it better than i could. but, if you believe in god, than you believe that god gave us logic and reason, right? so wouldn't he want us to use those tools? and if those tools tell us he doesn't exist...

Yes!

God would not give us a brain and the ability to analyze and then not expect us to use it.

I've questioned God all my life -- at first His existence, then ... it gets progressively more complicated. And God can and does stand up to any questions my puny mortal mind can come up with. Sometimes the answers are out of my league, but at least I can understand that fact.

The people who tell you not to question have only one reason to say that: fear. They are afraid that if they question their own beliefs, they'll come to the (correct) conclusion that their belief system is phony and built on sand.

Non-fundamentalists don't tend to be afraid of questioning. They know God can take it.

I agree. I believe that not allowing yourself to question in order to believe is dishonest and only takes you further away from the truth.

I know Bible quotes aren't popular, but there's a whole book in the Bible about this thought: Job. Throughout the book Job questions God about the misery his life had come to. His friends rebuke him and use old cliches to try to convince him that he is being punished for his sin. At the end of the book God points out that they are wrong, and they have to apologize to Job.

I love the wisdom of those ancient Jews...

Yes God does wants you to test Him. He does want you to have Him prove Himself to you. But it is you that has to do it. Seek God with all, not just part of your heart and He will in fact reveal Himself to directly to you. There are many ways God has proved Himself to us outwardly by just studying the universe and our own world--but it is the inside of man his own spirit which is the true test of God, and this you must do on your own and not just sit around and talk about it. Go out somewhere for a good period of time and just relate with God tell Him to prove Himself. Do this with all your heart and the answer will come or else He isn't God.

No, because when you start to question God you also start to question the his reasoning and his actions. We are to believe in god totally and not question him. he is supreme and infallible and beyond our ability to fathom his existence. only those who do not believe are to question him.
that is the reason that Satan was booted out because he started to question God and thought him self equal or better. It's not in our best interest to question his existence.
