I just want to know.

If the claim is that there is a lack of evidence then that doesn't make you an atheist and if it does I don't know how.

Gods don't exist. It is plain and simple.

A= lack of, or 'not'
theism = belief in the existence of deities (God(s))

Christian: Hey, God exists!

'Oh really? well....I don't believe you show me some evidence or proof then I will'

Christian: I can't, there is none

'Then your beat, I don't believe you'

That's weak atheism. Think about what the word 'belief' means. You automatically lack belief in things you have never heard of. Once you have heard of them, you need a reason to believe it is true, in most cases 'evidence' and of course 'proof' will suffice. In normal situations, the testimony of someone you trust would do as well, but in the case of theism, any time someone testifies that they *know* God exists you gotta be a little skeptical, even if it is your own mother.

When someone makes the positive assertion that God does NOT exist then they are strong atheists.

"If the claim is that there is a lack of evidence then that doesn't make you an atheist" It certainly doesn't make you a theist.

The word simply means without theism there is no implied reason. Also the lack of evidence can be either because it hasn't been found or doesn't exist. Both are still a lack.

Trust me I know what you're trying to say but you're splitting semantical hairs to try to say your definition is correct. It's the same childish argument used by some that "atheists do believe in god because some dictionary told me atheism means denying the existence of god. So if they are 'denying' it it means they do believe they just deny it."

I'm an atheist because there is lack of evidence supporting the claim that gods exist. Maybe I'm an agnostic atheist.

"Gods don't exist. It is plain and simple". Well, you're half-right. "Gods" plural do not exist. "A" God does. If you assert otherwise (and you have), then it is encumbent upon YOU to prove conclusively the truth of such an assertion. Scientists cannot prove that gravitational waves exist, and they're soliticiting the help of people all over the world to let their home computers be used to create a sort of "global antenna" in conjunction with a program they'll download on your computer for you. It's called "AlbertEinstein@Home", and is a rather ambitious sounding project. Now why are scientists looking for something they're not even sure exists, do you suppose? It must take ALOT of faith to ask people to allow their home PC's to be used to find "evidence" of something they're not even sure exists. And the same people assert/claim that God doesn't exist? Okaaaayy.

Sometimes our intelligence keeps us from feeling the truth of God. We rationalize that the reason we need others is the natural connection of family that is no longer needed. The truth is that love is more than a reason to select a partner or a family unit. We are made to search for reason for our lives and our purpose.
I realize that some things seem too for fetched to believe, and allot of our shortcomings as humans is to kill or destroy anyone who believes different than we do remains. This is not a work of God but humans
Remember God is a reason for love. We search for this love from our soul.
Answer this if there is not God then why do we debate the existence so much?

I'd love to believe that God exists - how cool would that be?? I feel the same way about unicorns. Unfortunately, I have no proof of either. It would be cool, though.

Actually, I'm agnostic and a little Taoist. I like to think everything in the universe is connected via an energy that can be tapped into. If you want to call that "God" - that's fine with me, but I don't call it God because people get confused.

"If the claim is that there is a lack of evidence then that doesn't make you an atheist and if it does I don't know how."

That there is a lack of evidence is the reason that I AM an atheist.

You don't *know* that god(s) don't exist, you choose to not believe in god.

It makes alot more sense to believe that God can exist rather than to be completely sure that He does not.
How can we be completely sure about anything? Humans do not know everything there is to know.

I hope that you do not need evidence for everything! What a way to live. Always doubting everything! How negative. Always seeking out evidence does not make you more intelligent it is often blinding! In many cases.

You sure are arrogant to think you can know anything like that as a certainty.

The fact is we know so little about the world we live in much less the universe that it's not even funny.

You don't even realize how little you really know yet you claim to know there is no God. Funny stuff!

You can't even prove YOU exist.

Both. It starts with the lack of evidence, no feelings for it, and contradictions. That leads to study and leads you away from the belief system you were brought up in and shows you the truth there is no god.
