When they find out I've worked as a sex worker (stripper and dominatrix)- they call me names. When they find that my partner and I live together out of marriage- they call us both names, or say something extreme and cruel, like he should have his child taken our of our household. When they find out I have pagan leanings, they scoff, make fun of my convictions, or call me names. When I went to the alternative high school, they stood outside and shouted at us and told us we were horrible sinners who were going to hell.

It really has not made me eager to convert. Rather, it's hurt my feelings and made me want to avoid them at all costs. Why do so many religious people seem filled with hate and anger?

They are hypocrites, and living proof of how weak the basis of christianity is.

They Put Others Down TO Make Them Feel Better About Their Selves
Not All Religious People are Like That!
But A Good Portion Of Them Are

I think you're lovely.

Many people's religiosity is so weak that the only way to affirm their faith is by looking outside themselves for examples they can demonize in order to see themselves as more righteous.

The more deeply religious a person is, the more of their attention is directed to their own flaws. The more a religious person is attacking others, the weaker their own faith.

This is why hypocrisy is so often the rule rather than the exception.

John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 15:11-13 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends."

I don't need to go on, I think you get my point... I hope.

I'm not sure which "Christian's" you are hanging with, but they are not showing you love by making fun of you.

Romans 3:10 "As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one."

Romans 3:23 "For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Romans 5:12 "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death trough sin, and thus death spread to all men, because ALL sinned."

Romans 5:8-9 "But God demonstrateds His own love toward us, in that while WE were still SINNERS, Christ died for us. 9 Much more than, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him."

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I am sorry that these people have made fun of you. They have no right to do that. EVERYONE is a sinner. We ALL have sinned.

I could email you and tell you what a wretched person I have been in the past, until Jesus brought me to Him.

I am telling you that I am a believer in Jesus Christ and I do not condemn you for the way you have lived. It is not for us to judge... God will do the judging when the time comes. We are to help each other along.

Sounds like they need to read the Bible again and follow Christ's teachings. Before they continue to condemn themselves for judging others. They are misguided.

"Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned, forgive, and ye shall be forgiven."

~Luke 6:37~

Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged!
and
Let He Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone

They should be less prideful, less self righteous and a lot more humble. They are not perfect either.

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

They obviously do not represent real Christian, Godly love.
They will have to answer to God for thier actions.

Dont generalize 'religious people' beloved. There are imperfect people trying to share a perfect Gospel and everyone doesnt get it Right.

You would have been the one that Jesus took a detour to specifically come talk to. Ever heard of the Samaritan woman in the Bible? The disciples thought "why is Jesus talking to HER?!? of all people??" so know that even those who claim to be closest to Christ, cannot see with the eyes that He sees. Even if 'people' turn you away from God, know that God will still turn towards you.

Believing that unbelievers in Christ are going to hell is not hatred. But some christians are afraid of people like you and this often comes out sounding like hate. They tend to forget that Jesus spent most of His time with prostitutes and tax collectors. These were people who know that they weren't right with God. These were people who were willing to listen to Him as He told them how much God loves them and wants to deliver them from the powers of evil. The people Jesus spent the least time around was the religious leaders. They were too busy making accusations at Him to listen to what He had to say.

So many wrongs have been committed in the name of this religion and that. That's the sin nature in each of us hard at work. Funny thing is, the bible says Jesus hung out with tax collectors and prostitutes.

If you pick up a bible and read it, you'll discover a world of difference between the religious and those who trust in Jesus.

I am terribly sorry that you have been mistreated in this way...
I am most humiliated to think that you may have suffered these things at the hands of people who are representing my Lord, Jesus Christ. Please accept my most humble apologies, in His name.
Please know that Jesus, Himself, would NEVER have treated you this way. Gently and respectfully, He would lift your chin in His hand until your eyes met His...and then, He would whisper quietly, just for your ears alone, how very much He loves you...and how very sad it makes Him that you choose to reject His great love.
"Please, my child," He would say, His beautiful eyes shining with tears, in a voice full of love, "I don't want you to be hurt. What you are doing is dangerous for you, and I am afraid for you. Come home, to Me. I love you so much..."
There were several women who followed Jesus, and loved Him. I think of the woman who wept at His feet...

Christians should not be filled with hate and anger...but rather with empathy and love.

The behavior you describe is not Christian at all.
Instead, it smacks of intolerance & hate.
True Christianity practices Bible principles,
which are based on love & respect:

"All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them." --Matthew 7:12.

"Return evil for evil to no one. Provide fine things in the sight of all men. If possible, as far as it depends upon you, be peaceable with all men. Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but yield place to the wrath; for it is written: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says Jehovah.” --Romans 12:17-19

"Let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works, ...encouraging one another, and all the more so as behold the day drawing near." --Heb. 10:25

Christ & his followers aptly warned that some claim to be God's followers, when actually their actions prove otherwise:

“...Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness." --Matthew 7:21-23

"...These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, ... Furthermore, many will follow their acts of loose conduct, and on account of these the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively..." --2 Peter 2:1-3

There are a great many of those whom the Bible warns about. One needs to search for those who are teaching & applying what the Bible *actually* teaches!

many of them ARE filled with hate and anger. i, being a religious person myself, have met many of them and have been hurt by many of them too. i don't think it is their religion that makes them filled with hate and anger. they just are that way regardless of their religion. many people think that being religious will fix them and make them a better person. i found from my own experience it does not. the only thing that can make me or them better, more loving, accepting, kind, etc. is to get the understanding and help we need to heal ourselves emotionally. religion all on it's own will not automatically heal us emotionally. i waited years thinking it would, before i finally made an effort to become emotionally healthy, more loving, kind, and accepting. try not to judge a person's religion by that person's actions. i have been hurt by those of my own religion and yet i remain in it, regardless of those who have hurt me.
