Don't eat all you can be because you're on a meal plan. Just eat until you're not hungry and you'll be fine. Also work out and you'll do just fine

Most college freshmen gain weight because of the dorm food. It is an endless buffet of food and desserts. Make sure you monitor the portions you're taking... even if it is your favorite meal that week! Also, don't binge drink. That is another reason why college students gain so much weight... they drink (a lot) and don't realize that alcohol has so many calories.

If you're going to be a champion eater or drinker, make sure you join some club sport or perhaps the rec center on campus. You'll meet new friends and work off all the calories. Plus, you'll have a lot more energy to cram for all your tests and big projects!

Have fun at college! Those 4 years go by really fast!

Exercise, don't go for seconds in the cafeteria, and at 2am when your hungry don't order a large pizza, make a sandwich. Really it's hard to say b/c your always on the go in college, I'm at a very large campus and can walk many miles a day just going from my room to class and back again and again. So you eat more, but it's always junk food. My freshmen year I actually lost 15 pounds b/c I did all that walking and I ate more but healthy foods, veggies, sandwiches, fruits and such.
Instead of reaching for the ice cream with hot fudge, reach for strawberries with a little bit of whip cream. Or instead of the chips get some carrots with low cal dip. It might not sound as good, but it's what works.
And if you plan on drinking, make sure it's light b/c the calories add up fast. So go for an extra long workout before hitting the keg.

If you mean when starting university, then just be sensible. I gained about 17 lbs when I started uni purely and simply because I was eating junk at stupid times and really not giving my body the nutrients it needed. Also, exercise really is the best thing to do.. it keeps you fit and helps you avoid putting on the pounds. Lastly, I am sure some of the weight-gain may be because of the elevated amounts of alcohol that freshers tend to consume!! So just take it easy! You could always ask your mum/aunt/older female role model how to cook some simple, healthy meals so you are all prepped up for college!

Be sure to develop a fit "lifestyle." First year college students often equate freshman year with total independence. Drinking whenever and wherever, eating whatever and whenever, etc... I actually got into better shape freshman year even while partying. Develop a lifestyle by putting together a class schedule that allows you to put together a workout routine. For example, getting up and committing to the gym or going for a run before you head off to class will allow you to, at the very least, maintain weight.

Stay away from unlimited fountain pop. A lot of people would study in the cafe... and drink and snack and drink and snack. Another huge problem (the one that I had) is with work/class schedules you might not be able to eat in the cafe where they have at least a better chance at healthy meals. I would have to eat at the school's version of fast food for 2 meals a day. Even eating veggies burgers, I still packed on some pounds. It didn't always fill me up so I would find myself snacking later on. GOod luck to you.

oh... and use the gym on campus. Normally there is no charge for students (its been built into your tutition).

If you're planning on living in a dorm, try to not eat the junk food that causes the weight gain. How many of us have plowed down a bag of chips while reading or watching tv? Stick with water or diet sodas only because one can of soda typically has about 150 calories in it. Instead of fried foods, get them grilled and cut out mayo that isn't reduced fat. If you have access to a gym, then start working out. You may even lose weight. Good luck in school. My son just started culinary school and he has to be extra careful with his weight because he's taking a baking and patisserie class!

Walk to class, workout out at the gym, stay active, and when you want to eat do something else instead, as always eat reasonably, avoid excessive drinking as it causes weight gain (or since you'll probably be under 21 Don't drink at all!) Enjoy college, meet people, and don't worry about your weight, especially if your taking the steps above.

Along with watching what you eat you also need to remember to still exercise. Many times when people go off to college they are so excited to be away from home they just focus on partyin, and being free. Everything increases in college, alcohol intake, food intake, and many times stress, but the one thing that people forget to increase is their exercise. Also watch the late night snacking before bed. When you eat and then go to sleep your body does not burn any calories and that food turns to fat.

Avoid beer drinking and junk food like pizza and burgers. Stick with lean protein and lots of veggies. If you must have fast food, try a salad with chicken in it, or a grilled chicken sandwich. No fries or sodas, only water or iced tea. Try to avoid the coffee drinks with cream and sugar.
Try walking instead of driving when you can and use stairs instead of elevators.
Good luck!

I look at it this way. How can you avoid not to without having any fun in college? Why are you so worried anyway, you're a senior. I guess you found Michael J. Fox's Delorian time machine and went back to the future. Give Lea Thompson a kiss for me please.
