my landlord said my dog is the cause for mice. The thing is, I know mice like dry dog food. But my dog had surgery and is on prescription canned food (which is refrigerated once opened and sealed when closed) which I feed him by hand.

This is a excuse ! Several people feed dry dog food & no mice ! Mice start to get into buildings, when it starts getting cold. So the mice would still get in, even if you didn't have a dog !

No your dog is not causing mice (regardless of size) as long as you are not leaving food or treats sitting around (which you obviously aren't) your dogs is not attracting the mice. Depending on where you are they may be moving inside because in is getting cold outside or if you live in one of the area that has had little rain this year the may be looking for water.

Au contraire, Yorkies are closely related to terriers, dogs that were generally developed as ratters. Maybe you should tell your landlord to get a bunch of terriers. That'll take care of the mice problem. I think the dry food would attract mice, but so does food lying around in general.

no I have sevral small dogs some are Yorkies and Jack Russels and they if anything will prevent mice and rats The problem at least where I live is that due to the heat and drought that mice, ants, etc are coming in more to get water.

yorkshires are related to jack russel terriers who are great mice hunters..the mice are getting in with the cold weather there is obviously a space or a hole were they are getting in..this is up to uour landlord to sort out he is trying to put the blame on you by saying it is because of your dog.. this is his problem as he hasnt fully sealed or insulated the apartment..get him on it straight away.

I HIGHLY doubt it. Mice eat anything, anything could be causing mice.
