It is called an ichthus. It was a symbol used by the early Christians during times of severe persecution. If you were talking, you would draw and arc in the sand. If the other person was a believer he would draw the other arc to complete the fish. You would then know that you could safely discuss your faith.

The word fish in Greek is ichthys. When capitalized in Greek the letters are ÎΧÎTΥΣ. Each capital letter stands for a word which when translated into English are: Jesus Christ Son of God Saviour

It is ICHTHUS. It is the actual word in Greek for "fish" but is also an acrostic. Hear is the meaning of the acrostic
I = Iesous --Jesus
CH = Christos --Christ
TH = Theos --God
U = Uios --Son
S = Soter --Savior
It was the code for Christians to meet in safety.

George?
You are probably thinking of ichthus (or ictus) but that's not a name, it's just the Greek word for fish.
