Acura Integra, Honda Prelude, Honda CRX, Honda Civic Si, Toyota Celica,Acura RSX if you can find one in the price range. All these vehicles are extremely reliable, great on gas, in your price range, and sporty looking and some are pretty damn quick.
Another suggestion that would be a great car but is a little less reliable is a Mitsubishi Eclipse..... You could also get just a couple years old Scion tC.
Good Luck

Ok, lets start out. You should have elaborated more on your vehicle preference, but I am sure that you will do more research than an answer that you got from some weirdo on the internet. First of all you should find a style that you like. You are a sixteen year old, so, probably something slightly sporty. You sound like you are on some sort of budget (e.g. gas mileage), which is understandable because gas prices are only going to increase. You should start small, at $7,000 dollars you can't expect much, but I would not recommend a Ford. Since Ford outsourced to Mexico in the 70s they have gone nowhere but downhill. While they have stylish new cars, all of the old ones are ugly anyway, and you can't get a new one for $7,000. I would recommend a Toyota or GM product, for GM maybe a late 90s or early 00s Chevy car. As far as Toyota goes, you could get a Camry from about the same time period, I would recommend a 2003, that was the Camry's best year, however it would have to be a higher milage vehicle to get that price. A Corolla would be good, but I think they are ugly. Sorry, they are, but having a cool car when you are sixteen isn't any fun! Trust me, its much more fun to talk about your piece of crap car than how awesome it it. The awesomeness lasts about a week on a cool car, but the crapiness of an old car continues to make "broke down" and "no A/C" stories for the life of the vehicle. As far as the towing situation, sorry, I can't really recommend any small trucks that have been on the market in the last 10 years. you could get a Toyota Tacoma, but I have had bad experiences with them, they also get terrible gas milage. As mentioned before a Toyota RAV4 would be a good option, a Honda CRV as well, I think that the RAV4 would be better on gas, but Honda tends to be top ranking in terms of used car reliability.
Hope I have been of help,
Jake

The small pick ups sound like your best choice if you are going to have to tow anything later on. One poster suggested you should get a Ford Focus. Not only can you NOT tow anything with a Ford Focus, but ironically, you would be the one who would need a tow if you bought one. They are one of the worst cars ever made. Ever, anywhere. lol
If you have 7000 for a car, dont spend all of it on the car. You will need some money for inspection, insurance, and probably a few repairs. You may also want a radio upgrade.

If you want something that pulls, get a little 2wd truck (Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10). They're relatively cheap (my friend got a Ranger for $1000 with just over 100,000 miles on it) and they can tow, plus are great on gas. The way I drive, my S-10 Blazer (with mud tires, stereo, etc) gets 20+mpg, even after 20 years. A manual, if you know how to drive one right, can get better gas mileage than an automatic.

You may want to pull a trailer, but that would mean sacrificing good gas mileage. I would highly recommend a Honda Civic. They are good on gas, fun and easy to drive, and maintain their value. I used to work for Honda. You should be able to find a '00, '01 or maybe even an '02 for that price. Just try and buy from an individual, not a dealership, because they will screw you over, trust me!

Get a small chevy S-101/2 ton pickup 4 or 6 cyl. For less than 7K you can pick up a pretty nice ride and still have $$ left over for after market stereo, rims, tires, exhaust, etc.
You have enough power to pull a trailer easy.
I had one and averaged 18 city and 25 hwy

Get a small SUV like a Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4, or similar. They can tow up to around 1200 lbs, get decent gas milelage, and are generally pretty reliable.
Plus, at 16, you can pile your friends in the back...

buy a JEEP! they are perfect for everyday driving, and also get somewhat decent gas mileage...Not only can you haul people, but you can also haul a trailer if you ever needed to, and you have off-road capabilities if you ever happen to get stuck in bad weather, or want to off-road for fun...
