Go to a Masjid, i am sure we sitting here wont' be of enough help compared to someone who could explain face to face. A masjid is supposed to be a learning place, really dont be hesitant to go there. Edit: One should never hesitate to learn about his relegion, go ahead and visit a masjid. Meanwhile, you can start by knowing the following: 1. The fard (mandatory) 5 times prayers 2. No. of Rakah in each of the fard prayers 3. Reciting the 'sanah', 'fatiha' and a small Surah in the first Rakah. 4. Same as point 3 but without 'Sanah' AND a different Surah this time Know that this is just the structure of Salah, but most importantly you should know is that a Hadith says that while praying consider yourself looking at Allah, if you cannot develop that, then atleast develop the feeling that Allah is watching you, this will develop focus in your prayers. Also know that prayer is a source of asking Allah for anything, either worldly or spiritual (provided it is Halal)

Proud to be Muslima gave you very good answer and the best link.
Congratulations sister and welcome in Islam the religion of love, mercy and tolerance.
I just want to add that you take it easy and step by step. First try to make the obligatory things and do it well then learn about sunnah mua'kada (it means sunnah which is sure was done always by the prophet PBUH), then the rest of sunnah.

Also I would like to tell you that during prayers, some people who may have problems with movements or siting in certain way can't do it the right way (specially legs), it's allowed to do just as much as possible of the ideal thing. If someone is sick or can't move, it's allowed also to pray with eyes only. If someone can't talk, he can think about the words as if he is talking.

If you need any help or explanations, you can send me anytime.
May God care of you and help you always.

I know it's hard to learn the Salaat (prayer) especially if it's not your own language, pronounciation can be a challenge, and remember your position of whether you should sit or stand up during a particular verse. My recommendation is, draw sketches of every position a person stands in and what he/she says during that position. Next to the sketch write down what should be said. Second, writing it and memorizing it are two different things. A good way to memorize is to go step by step. Don't try to learn the entire salaat at once. Learn it one verse at a time otherwise you will confuse and frustrate yourself. When you learn a particular verse, you'll match it with the position your body takes, and as you associate it with that you'll realize that Salaat is mainly repeated verses from the Qur'an. Like when you're doing Sajdah (prostration before God), you could be doing that 5 different times of the day but the good thing is you only say one thing during Sajdah which is (Subhana Rabyal Allah -- which you repeat 3 times). I hope I'm not confusing you.
Second, I think it's easier that you attend the mosque during prayer times because the Imam there prays out loud, which means you can follow what they're doing and as you continuously repeat after them, you will slowly pick up after them. You can also approach a Muslim sister, or few at the Mosque and ask them to help you learn, and I am sure that 1 out of 2 or 3 will definitely help you.

I hope I didn't confuse you. Let me know.. or you can email me at fatima8884@yahoo.com

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

First of all, Alhamdulillah, that Allah guided you to Islam. May you always be on the Straight Path, Ameen.

Second, and VERY important, is I recommend you NOT visit the site submission.org. It is a very deviant site. The people there reject the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and thus they are outside of the fold of Islam. If you visit that site you will find much contradictory and confusing information. I cannot contact the person who gave you that link so I don' t know if he/she is ignorant of the site or follows their deviant belief. InshAllah, if Allah wills, that person will realize it is a deviant site.

Below is a link to a good Sunni website that has a flash player to show you graphically how to do each of the moves of the prayer. InshAllah it will be of use to you. Also, there is a link to an excellent site for learning about Islam. I recommend you primarily spend your time on that site and avoid the many deviant sites that seek to misguide Muslims.

Fi Aman Allah,

Walikom asalam

Welcome to Islam sister and May Allah help you and support you and guide you to the straight path

There are five obligatory prayers everyday:

1- fajr - 2 rakat
2- dhuhr- 4 rakat
3- 'asr- 4 rakat
4- maghrib- 3 rakat
5- isha- 4 rakat

A sunnah is an action the prophet used to do, it is good and advisable to do it but it is not obligatory, sunnah prayers are prayers which prophet Muhammad pbuh used to do, some of them are mo'akad ( the prophet used to do them all the time) and some of them aren't. It is always good to pray these sunnah prayers.

Try checking this link, it is a full flash program explaining how exactly to pray:

Hope it helped

For the first part of that question, I suggest you go to an impartial Muslim... someone who has read & understood the Hadith & can provid sources for what he'she does during Salat.
& There's One Kind of Fard (Compulsory) & 2 kinds of Sunnah. These are Wajib & Nafl. Wajib is STRONGLY recommended & Nafl is just for "extra credit".
But again, you'd be better off going to a learned person who doesn't belong to any sect or doesn't comply to any sect.

najwa?
is that a new name?
najwa means the unseen contact between your heart and god
salah is not difficult
its repeating for one ruk3aa all the time
so it is easy simple moves
fard and sunna is the same with the way you doing it
praying one day only would make you an expert in the way you doing it that you might show others and teach them
i am not sure what is your language but you have to notice that the salah is a compination of
1 taharah and wudoo2
2 learning the moves
3 al fatiha, that is the first sura in quran
these three main issues would make your salah complete

Fajr is two Rakah. Dhur and Asr are both 4 Rakaha. Maghrib is 3 Rakaha. Isha is 4 Rakah. Fajr is done aloud. Dhur and Asr are both done silent. Maghrib is the first 2 Rakah are done aloud and the last is done silent. Isha the first 2 Rakah are done aloud and the last 2 are done silent. You need to get a hijab(headscarf) and a Abaya(long robe) to wear when you pray otherwise your prayers won't be accepted by ALLAH(SWT). Also go to a Mosque and ask the women to help you. Women are to be silent when they pray and can't pray aloud as their voice is awrah and is to be hidden. Plus your voice might seduce your Muslim brothers. You don't need to go the mosque at all as it is better for a woman to pray in the home and you don't need to attend Jummah(friday prayer that takes place in place of Dhur). Only men are obligated to attend the Masjid on Friday. However you can go the mosque if you want to do so. You need to learn Wudu and Salat and Arabic. See if the mosque in your community has Arabic classes you can take. You can't pray on your period and can't pray when your bleeding after child birth for 40 days. http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/galleries/salah/

The above links are for your clothing you need to buy and start wearing, the Wudu pics, Salah pics, and how to do Salah. You need to cover your entire body including your face and hands when you go outside since your a woman. Also cover yourself when visiting other women or when family is over.

Salam, there are many prayers in Islam
as a Jew I learned when I was thrown out of synagogue for believing the Jewish scriptures and the promise of the Muslim Messiah Jesus, who the Koran tells came was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14 to be imanuel meaning in Hebrew God with us)
and to be the mighty God the prince of peace Isaiah 9:6 and Isaiah 53 tells of his purpose to be an atonement =forgiveness for our sins.
In the teachings of the Koran he rose to heaven and awaits return to reign as Messiah over the earth.
Now he is my best friend because i did as he teaches and let him into my heart Revelation 3:19&20th verses that he loves us --as Jesus says Revelation 1:1 spoken from heaven
Jesus teaches much about prayer and we need to listen to his teaching heart and soul too to be true Muslims in Islam.

and do be carefull, since January 2006 when the Golden mosque was blown up, sunni and shiite muslims have been blowing each others mosques up as each interprets yet rejects the words of Jesus to love even your enemies.

Best wishes, DAvid the sweet pea in his amazing grace
