Some people are so destitute of ammunition in trying to shoot down Christianity that they will try to convince people that evolution and Genesis conflict.

There's no evidence for intelligent design, besides the vague, 'it looks pretty, so someone must have done it'
Hindu mythology has nothing to do with the biblical account of creationism, and only fundamentalists from the Abrahamic religions believe in it.
And you have no idea, (like the rest of us) how many scientists are religious, or if you do please post your source.

That source of yours for the amount of scientists who believe in god is Jonathan Wells, chief advocate of ID, hardly unbiased and unless he's met 2 thirds of all the scientists in the world a massive sweeping generalisation. So just because he believes it doesn't make it true. There's no way of knowing how many scientists are religious, unless you take a poll and not just the ones you know from church.

And to your other question, I said only fundamentalists believe in creationism, the Pope and Catholics seem happy with evolution as does everyone else who's not a creationist. As to how they fit God into that picture, you'll have to ask them.

Btw, to challenge evolutionary theory, you have to come up with an instance where it fails to explain some observable evidence, like all theories. If this happens it either be changed or dropped, it's not dogma based on holy scripture. Also evolution doesn't pretend to explain how life got started, just what happens to gene pools after it started.

Religious people also believe in Evolution. (not Darwinism... Darwinism is a term used by fundamentalists who are trying to discredit evolution. Besides, Darwin only gave us PART of the information regarding evolution. Many other later scientists gave us a much more detailed picture of what happens).

And scientists don't have a problem explaining evolution.

Ask a scientist. Any scientist who didn't get his degree from a Bible college will tell you the same thing. Evolution exists.

The majority of scientists DON'T believe in god. In fact, the majority of field leading scientists are resolute atheists. The more educated and intelligent someone is the lower they score in religiosity questionnaires.

The only really notable religious scientist was Newton.

The story of Darwin's recanting is not true. Shortly after Darwin's death, Lady Hope told a gathering that she had visited Darwin on his deathbed and that he had expressed regret over evolution and had accepted Christ. However, Darwin's daughter Henrietta, who was with him during his last days, said Lady Hope never visited during any of Darwin's illnesses, that Darwin probably never saw her at any time, and that he never recanted any of his scientific views (Clark 1984, 199; Yates 1994).

What Darwin and Wallace discovered about evolution is the only reasonable explanation for the way life has developed on earth. Note all the evidence collected in the last 100 years has not weakened Darwin's discoveries only amended some of his ideas. Also Darwin did not recant in theory on his death bed this is a silly story put around by creationists in a desperate attempt of bolster up their ridiculous belief in the biblical account of creation

evolutionary theory has no saving grace, unless you think that being a good scientific theory is a saving grace (i do). i don't think that anybody should *believe* in evolution, what would be the point, it is empirically demonstrable. i would just prefer that people who are offended by it for religious reasons would stop lying about the scientific status of the theory. i'm an atheist and a scientist. (incidentally, it has not been my experience that the majority of scientists believe in god, although it is certainly true that some do.) i'm not an evolutionary biologist, but i think that i usually understand evolution well enough to counter the falsehoods spread by creationists - it is really not that difficult, i think of myself as speaking on evolution as a rational informed person, not as an atheist or a scientific expert. i don't expect that accepting evolution should instantly cause anyone to reject god.

The majority of scientists do NOT believe in God. I am a Christian, and I can admit that. There is no point in deceiving yourself because it really makes no difference.

And no one promotes "Darwinism". Darwin's theories are but a part of the current theory of evolution.

2007-10-16 10:12:36 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

Why promotes Darwinism?
It is called education - or science -

Please give us your stastistics on religious scientists.
Online reports suggests 7%
Also the number of intelligent design "scientists" holding phd vs number of evo-devo scientists...I do remember a poll a few years ago in the usa. Comparing the number of ID phd ( about 3-400) to the number of scientits non-ID all sharing the same first name (one was picked at random ) - about 1500.

Because Darwinism is a scientific alternative to creationism.

I don't believe the majority of scientists believe in God. Neither Einstein nor Hawkins believed in God, even when Einstein spoke of 'knowing the mind of God' he meant being in the position of knowing everything about the laws of the universe.

Numpty it's based on archeological digs and them bones, which should be re-buried, they found. It's called archeological evidence.

Oh and I'm not an atheist, I'm Pagan. But you'll probably see them one in the same.

The majority of scientists also believe in Darwin. Scientists do not allow their belief in God to alter the scientific method of proof, and God doesn't not satisfy that because there is no evidence of his existence.
