flea collars don't do much.. trust me.
Your best bet is the drops you put on the back of the neck (frontline, revolution, advantage) that you get from the VET. )
Trust me.. Tried everything for fleas at one point in time..

Flea collars don't kill or prevent fleas I'm afraid. I know they should because it's what they're supposed to do, but they just don't work, so don't waste your money. The collars are impregnated with insecticide, but it doesn't spread through the skin, so the only protection is around the neck - fleas actually have to walk over the collar to die, so they just avoid the neck area.
The way to treat fleas is not collars or baths (all old hat) or anything from a pet store - the stuff stores sell is not specific flea treatment because stores aren't licensed to sell the proper stuff.
Go in to a vets and pick up a veterinary spot-on like Frontline, Advantage or Revolution - these all work and are safe for use on cats and dogs, unlike pet store stuff. You may need to spray your house as well.

I’m not a big fan of collars. If your cats aren’t used to them, they sensation something around their necks can drive them crazy. You also have the issue of the cat getting caught on something. Flea collars don’t have the same tear-away safety feature that many standard collars do. Your cat could also manage to take it off (and if they don’t like them, they will try), potentially getting flea killer on their feet and then into their mouths.
I’ve had success with Frontline. Others like Advantage. They’re much safer because the cat can’t access the medication if it’s applied correctly, and they don’t have to walk around with a collar bothering them.

All they do is expose you and the pet to toxic chemicals. They do not kill or prevent fleas.
Get Advantage or Frontline. You are wasting your money on anything from the grocery store or Wal-Mart.
And if the cats have fleas and come in the house, you have fleas starting to breed in your house. If they are not taken care of, you will have a major outbreak about Christmas!!!!
Advantage applied for three months will solve your ENTIRE problem!!!

They will help but most likely you will have to get a flea shampoo to get rid of them. Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY HERTS that is not a good brand and has even been known to be deadly to cats if you get the flea drops. I would recommend Frontline. It's a little pricey but its very good and is proven to work.
Good Luck!

My vet told me to stay away from flea and tick colars. He said that there are chemicals in the flea colars like cyanide and stuff like that. Rat poison and stuff. Get advantix or something from a vet but stay away from flea colars.
