The dealer gave you a bum steer. When you buy a car, it's **your** responsibility to get it registered. Go to the DMV now and get it taken care of.

You'll contact the DMV and work with the people that handle dealers that have gone out of business without processing title/registration paperwork. You'll need to provide proof of the sale, your contract, bill of sale, etc. Depending on what the investigation turns up, will depend on whether you get a clear title/registration, or if you have a car that is gonna be worthless. The DMV is the only people that can check this out for you. Info for the future..........when buying a car from a dealer(new or used)the dealer generally has 45days from date of sale to process and title/register your car. If after 45 days, or before your temporary plate expires, and you haven't heard anything, call the dealer. If you get an excuse, call the DMV.

Did you get the actual title to the vehicle? One problem when a dealer goes out of business is that they may have never transferred your title and paid the tax, title and license fees.
You need to contact dmv right away. If the car has never been transferred into your name contact your state attorney general's office for assistance.

Get information from the DMV about what you have to do to get proper tags since the dealer is out of business. Have all your sale paperwork handy.

I live in MO too-most likely they would just warn you to get it registered ASAP but if it keeps happening you will get a ticket. Legally, your car is not licensed, so if a cop wanted to be a hard *** he could make you get out but not tow it until it was abandoned over I think 24 hours on a public road or whenever the owner wants in a private lot. So just get the $ together and get it done.

If you have the title just go to the dmv with your proof of insurance and get your tags. If you never got your title then you need to file for a lost title.
