Depends on your perspective and Religion.

Some would already say we already do live in a world with out a god.

Look at all the death and war around us. Only a god of war would like a planet like this at the moment Ares comes to mind!

Guess we better call Xena fast huh lol. JK

First, I think you meant to ask WHAT would a world without GOD look like....? Next, you're basic assumption that "our very law" is based on the word of God is flawed. The U.S. for example has, in its constitution, a clear separation of church and state. The U.S. is a Republic based on non-secular laws. Every other nation on earth has laws based on non-secular ideals. So your statement of "No God...no law." is also flawed. The exceptions are those nations ruled by Islamic law, and need I remind you that in those countries, criminals are dealt with much more severly than those with non-secular laws.

Therefore, havng a choice between living in a Godless society with non-secular laws, or a theocracy, such as those ruled by Islamic laws... I will always choose the non-secular society.

The rest of your rant is as moot as the first.

I am an atheist.
I am also a compassionate, and caring individual.
I don't get my morals from an ancient text.

My morality is based on not causing or contributing to the suffering of others. I don't need the threat of a deity to motivate me here.

The US is nearly unique in the world as an economically prosperous and yet still religious nation. Nearly all the other economically prosperous and free nations are overwhelmingly atheist. They also have a much lower level of violence than America.

So- by empirical data in looking at the world around us, we would appear to be much better off without this concept of God.

This IS a world without a god.

But to answer what I think you actually meant to say, the world could be a lot better or a lot worse. As we are now, religion is both making society worse in many ways and making it better in others. For example, all the people that claimed to have been terrible rapists, murders, thieves, etc. that converted to Christianity are (hopefully) no longer raping, murdering and stealing.

But without religion, after a period of adjustment, I think the world would be a much better place. People would be more focused on THIS life, and hopefully would feel a personal responsibility to make the world better for EVERYONE.

People wouldn't be so afraid of new things and would therefore be more likely to think about change more logically. Because of this, not only would progress happen more quickly, but "progress in the wrong direction" would be less likely, because people wouldn't be focused on the Biblical implications, they would be focused on the social and environmental implications (among many others). Basically, they would be focused on what really matters instead of being distracted by inane, irrelevant guidelines and philosophies born of bigotry.

As for your other question, "what things would YOU do," I would simply live my life as I already do: trying to make the world a better place for myself and others and trying to experience as much of life as I can before I die and I no longer consciously exist. Only I wouldn't spend so much time on R&S. :P

Our current laws may have their early roots in certain religious dogma and teachings, but they are now present for social and pragmatic reasons. Regardless of the existence of a god or gods, we would still have laws that govern how we behave towards each other to prevent chaos and and insure for the general safety of the population.

Consider that even after the Soviets outlawed religion, they still had VERY tough laws regarding almost everything.

Your basic premise is flawed.

Your law and Constitution are based on England's Magna Carta; to be called law rather than doctrine it had to be disconnected from religion, that's what gives the English speaking world the edge in many ways.
You now know what a world w/out Santa looks like so it shouldn't be too much of a stretch...

You are confused. It doesn't matter if there is a God. Religion spoils it all by excusing sinners. My life won't change. God does not prevent people from being greedy. Look at the American government. The religious have been in power for seven years. All they have done is lie, cheat and steal. No, it won't make a bit of difference.

You don t have to wait!! Look the world around what you see.....No God! Natural law of the strongest. If no law or God, no matter if somebody kill someone you love, or burn yr house, or steal your car. You ll be a robot with no feelings. You won t suffer . Come on! Crime made necessary the law and limits to violence.

No, what you are thinking of is a world without religion, and I disagree that it would look like that. The world in which we live could-- and, in my opinion, does-- exist without a god.

Religion has done a lot to advance society; it has kept people in line, and stopped our society from becoming one in which might makes right. However, now that it has shifted from preventing hate to perpetuate it, I personally believe its impact in government should be lessened. Some people will always need to have some sort of deity in which to believe, but this or these deities should not impact legislature.

Our law is not based on the word of god. If there was no god there would have been no wars in the middle east because they wouldn't have anything to fight over, the jews wouldn't have been exterminated because they have a different religion. I there was no god the world would be a much nicer place.
