The only way Jesus was born of a virgin is by parthenogenesis. That is, from an unfertilized egg. The problem is: the resulting offspring by this process are all female. God could make Jesus look like a man, even if she did not have the Y chromosome.
If God had anything to do with Mary's pregnancy, it would involve SEX, even if he did not do it the human way. That is sexual reproduction, and that is a sin, because Mary was betrothed to Joseph.

Before anyone jumps to unenlightened conclusions, you must not the date of that comment, circa 1615. There was not a lot of secular knowledge in that era about the current composition of the solar system nor how celestial physics works. After all, this was the era where the earth was considered to be flat.
As science progressed physical knowledge, the knowledge of church leaders also increased; and church leaders could speak their opinions based on the knowledge of the day.
This occurs even now.

If you believe that God created the Earth and all creatures on Earth, it shouldn't be a problem believing that he impregnated a virgin. Sounds like child play compared to creating the whole universe! It's all a question of Faith and Faith is not based on science. It's God we're talking about, he can do whatever he wants!
It's not because this Cardinal was wrong about the Earth's revolution that he was wrong about Marie....

I do not claim to be a scientist, or historian. In fact I'm not even a little bit of either. There are Christians who can answer that who are scientist and historians. But I ask you would you give up your life if had to, to make a stand for your belief. Christians have, since the death of Christ in His human form. I hope that I would, if the time comes.

Jesus was born of a virgin just like Adam was born without a father. Limited humans with their limited thinking process limit their answers to what their little minds can comprehend. Just as monkey can understand the use of complicated tools, so too we think nothing can't happen outside what our limited "intellect" knows.

i like this lol, my take is that if the story is somewhat correct, then the only possible explanation is that mary was unfaithfull and to keep from being stoned to death as an adultress she manufactured a lie around it, women have always been good manipulators and poor jesus would have been born getting "your the son of god" shoved down his throat, no wonder he claimed it.

because of the fact he's holy. purely an undefiled womb could suffice. It additionally stands to teach that His human concept became into the paintings of the Holy Spirit in assessment to the different delivery of the different human earlier or after. He, in assessment to something human beings became into no longer born below the curse of sin. He became into thoroughly sinless from His concept to His loss of life and resurrection. He became into no longer incredibly conceived at that factor the two, He already became into from the start. (See John a million:a million-3 and John a million:14) His human type became into conceived at that factor, immaculately. Mary even though became into no longer conceived immaculately in spite of the coaching of the Roman Church. She became into conceived an identical way all and sundry else became into. Jesus became into the only one conceived immaculately in an immaculate and undefiled womb.

I just want to throw in that the Latin word used in both the Isaiah prophecy and in Matthew was "virgo." This can be meant as virgin, but also maiden, who was just a girl of marrying age that was not yet married.
Those are my two cents.
