I am a Christian but I truly enjoy talking to people of other faiths. It can be very interesting to find out what motivates a person to chose a particular belief. I believe my religion to be the correct one but I am not going to say that others are wrong...theirs could be correct too...I try to be open minded.

Christians are taught from birth that anything non-Christian is bad and evil and therefore must be eliminated. Ignorance has been around since Christianity originated and isn't going away anytime soon. On the flip side, other religions are tolerant and willing to learn from each other.
A project I did in high school was that my class had to research various world religions and then explain why Christianity was the better option. So from what I could tell, nothing was learned by hardly anyone because of the mindset they had going in and also during the entire project. Didn't make any sense to me as to why bother researching something if you already know what your opinion of it is regardless of what you find out?

I think it is only some religions that thwart the learning of other religions, but it is more common that individuals are lazy minded and when they think they have found all the answers then they simply aren't moved to learn anything more, or anything new. But some religions actually encourage the learning of other religions, such as Presbyterians. But, again individuals might not actually be doing it. I love to learn new things about what people believe, and have difficulty identifying with thinking I've got it all figured out and don't need anything else besides a single book. Ouch to my intellect!

This is really a good thing for those that have never explored other religion. I have and it does not take away the true inspired word of God. Yes knowledge is power and God said in his word "MY PEOPLE PERISH FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE" Also we are not to worship nothing but God in spirit and in truth. I do not call this ignorance if people refuse to explore or never had the opportunity, but an unstanding to come to all who have never explored other so called truths.

Some of us do, but you can't expect everybody to do that because (1) there are a lot of religions out there and (2) not everybody has the same talents, interests, or gifts. We all have to pick a cause that's important to us and focus on that. There are a lot of subjects worth getting involved in, but we can't each do all of them. People misrepresent Christianity, too, you know. In fact, I see that every day on yahoo answers.

Some people question and seek the truth, some people follow blindly. I was born Muslim, but I have read Torah, Bible and The Hindu book too. Personally I think reading and dicovering more about other faiths have made me a better muslim... Ofcourse Knowledge is POWER!!!

Most religions believe that they are the "one true" religion so they do not promote studying other beliefs.
Also there are sites that do not specify who Buddha was so even if someone does try to look it up they can still be confused.

Some people aren't interested in trying to promote their belief system over any other, something having knowledge of other belief systems would assist in. They believe what they believe and leave it to others to believe the way they like, and would rather just be left alone. Seems to work OK for the Amish.

WOW, a real conspiracy idea. no longer something sparkling, even though it must have take a lengthy time period to deliver at the same time and write down this load of crap. that is an enticing study, yet in spite of this the reality is by no skill ad exciting as idea, and that is amazingly exciting, a load of BULL, yet exciting none the a lot less. Now, ensure that you do loosen your tinfoil hat, modify the antennae, pass back less than your bridge, and PLAY WITH the different TROLLS......

They are afraid. Remember, especially in the Christian religion, knowledge has actually been turned into something evil (the apple). Some people can't handle additional knowledge, as well. They are scared it will make them doubt.
