I dont think it ever wears off in reality - I think that we, as humans, simply become so used to the feeling that we incorporate it into our daily lives and that feeling then becomes the "norm" - kind of like how an alcoholic descends into alcoholism...after a long enough time, being drunk is normal and being sober is dangerous. Same with love - thats why people become so miserable when love ends.

It's like new car smell. You know how you're all excited when you buy a new car. It's shiny and fresh and has that great smell and you want to drive it all the time. And you make all that effort to keep it clean and maintained.
But then the "new" wears off. It's not exciting any more. Then one of two things can happen: a.) It ends up being a good dependable car that requires little maintenance and always gets you where you need to go and becomes a comfortable, beloved companion for many years. Or, b.) It ends up being an unreliable piece of crap that costs you a whole bunch of time and money and does little in return but leave you stranded all the time. And then you trade it in on a new model.

The Bible is a collection of stories written by men. They got to decide what went in the book. Even after the collection was complete the powers in Rome decide how many stories and what got edited. They threw out anything that they disagreed with including the bits about freedoms for women. The book was used to control people especially the poor and uneducated. It has worked because most people would rather believe than find out its not believable.

Bliss or infatuation is just the tip of the iceberg. In the right relationship, this infatuation deepens into love as you get to know someone and still care about them after you seen them in bad or tough times. Their faults are a part of them and you still love them in spite of the faults.

If there was no wearing off of infatuation, you might stick around with someone just for the sexual intimacy or some other really superficial reason. With the wearing off of infatuation, you can see their faults and decide to move on, perhaps finding real love just around the corner.

It is so funny that you ask this. My friend and I were talking about "puppy love," and we both came to the conclusion that it may have been temporary, but nothing could top the intensity of that first awakening of romantic love. Since it is not based on much other than a chemical attraction, it usually wears off as reality sets in, unless you find substance and fulfillment. I found that in my spiritual walk.

"Love bliss" is a chemical reaction that evolved to assist with the propagation of our species. It can be recreated, so to speak with massive amounts of chocolate in my case.

All great feelings come and go....it is our choices that define us.

Because love bliss is that first attraction and it isn't deep, when you find the deep parts of your relationship that holds you together even when the original jolt is gone.

You get used to each other. At first, its just an attraction. That attraction isn't always needed once you've made the committment. I'd personally say its biological.

Because it's chemical response and just like getting used to a smell, your receptors stop responding.
