Being open minded means to be willing to analyse and eventually accept any theory that makes sense. Being open minded can't be something limited. You can't be open minded only with the bible, just like you can't be open minded only in the kitchen!

There are people like NT Wright that combine both perspectives nicely. And there are the historical Jesus people (many from the Jesus Seminar) like Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan who read it completely critically (as I do) and still have faith. I highly recommend two books to you - Marcus Borg's Reading the Bible Again for the First Time and Margaret Nutting Ralph's And God Said What? Either or both of these will provide you all teh groundwork you need to clear up the confusion and help make the Bible relevant to you as a critical and open minded reader.

Absolutely you should be open-minded about all religions and spiritual beliefs. I like the answer you gave to your own question -- it's perfect: "explore all aspects of a story and decide which makes the most logical sense." I would just add that if you are searching for a spiritual path, you also need to decide on the one that you feel attuned with - the one that clicks for you - the one that brings you comfort and spiritual fulfillment.

no, i think people should be open minded about anything. case in point, i'm a christian, you're an atheist. ok. we know that. BUT, i actually TRY to see things the way you see them, so i can make an "educated" (cough, cough) answer that you would not just read the first two words and say PPBBLBLTTT, "whatever"...kinda like trying to learn about a foreign culture before you go to the country, cuz you don't want to get arrested or insult any traditions, right?

Well, in talking about exploring, have you explored the Bible? I think you will find truth in it. Being open minded? Well, it sounds like you are- just start digging in & you might be amazed at what you find.

Yes, examine it critically. Several people have pointed out that nothing makes atheists quicker than a careful and thorough reading of the Bible. I think they're right.

Most agree there is only one Creator.

The bible has been twisted and twisted until who knows who said what and what they meant. Interpretation is open to debate.

Read all you can about spirituality and also the bible.

yes. Be open-minded about everything- and even if you come to a belief, don't let it be firm. Let other 'evidence' or thoughts be able to change so that you can be what is right for you.

Don't be a Christian. Be someone with the beliefs alike to those of Christianity.

Seeing all of the absurdities, contradictions and falsehoods in that mythology REQUIRES open mindedness. It is only when we have already decided it is true (closed our minds) that we miss these things.

you should, but some lack the capacity for logic and trade it for the security blanket most people refer to as fairy tales or the bible.
