A portmanteau is when you combine two words to make a new word.
Like combining "slimy" with "lithe" to get "slithy."

On a side note, I saw a creationist trying to copy the old argument from Behe about the bacterium flagellum, but wrote is as "how does evolution explain the flatulum?"
