FYI I ask this Q here because my contacts/fans requests come from you guys.
Please someone explain to me the point of having contacts/fans in YA. Is this supposed to be like MySpace where I'm oh so cool if I have lots o friends? (That's why I don't do the whole MySpace thing, I don't care who likes me) I don't get it. I have 1 contact because it's a person I know in the real world. But I have like 50 fans.... am I supposed to make these all contacts or what? Please someone explain to me the point of this.....

I like to keep up with the questions and answers certain people give. HEY...you're one of MY contacts! What are you saying exactly?!?! :S

I have 14 friends on my Myspace. I know them all personally, it's not like most people on there who collect people just to say they have friends. I really dislike this whole fan/contact thing. If you allow fans, you have to allow anybody that wants to add you. I don't like that cause half the people that tried to add my old account as a fan I didn't know them at all, never seen them before, and I think that's the reason why I got so many violations on my old account. Now if somebody adds me, and I don't know them or don't like them, I block them. I don't want this account getting deleted too.

Geez, I hope you're not supposed to make fans into contacts. I've got 158 fans (no, I have no idea how that happened, other than longevity).

I don't think that it means anything at all. I assume that at least half of those people were folks who thought I was an idiot and wanted to keep an eye on me. I'll bet that several more were people who accidentally clicked the button (I did that a few times myself).

It's about establishing friendships of common interest on Yahoo Answers. My contacts all seem to enjoy the same questions and answer sessions so we interact and support one another. We also learn as a unit. I find my contacts are all awesome and entertaining. I look forward each day to their posts and responses.

Sandy :O)

Fans like what you say or what you ask. Contacts help you keep up with what your fans ask.

I use contacts when I like someones questions and want to know when they ask more. I have no fans:( Not that popular, I guess.

Have you ever noticed that when you are looking at the question board that the majority of the questions are either "lame" or something that you have no interest in? Sometimes you can go through page after page of questions before you find something that is worthy of an answer.
When you have your own network of contacts, you are able to see their questions and the questions that interest them. It saves you a lot of time sifting through all the riff raff on the board.

I added you as one of my contacts because I liked your answer and I figured I could keep seeing them if we were answering the same questions.
Normally I would send an email requesting permission to add you but you blocked your email.
If you like then I could remove you from my contact list. Let me know ok? I meant no offense.

I love having my contacts because I appreciate their Q&A
so the first thing I do before opening R&S is browse my contacts recent posts
if someone invites me as a contact ... I check their posts and see if it is someone I would like to have on my list and if yes , then I will add them also
I have so many friends on my contact list that it is difficult to keep up with emails etc ... but I can keep up with what they have been doing on YA

No, it's more so you can see the types of things that they're posting, or the things that they find interesting. When you make someone a contact, and they star something because they think it's interesting, you'll see the things they starred, so you can check it out, too.

It's all about the profile page, where you can easily sort out from the main boards what the interesting questions and answers are...
