Why do people (like my friends) proclaim that they are not drunk (while actively stumbling and demonstrating otherwise) when I tell them that they are wasted? I'm not an authority figure or anything and I'm not going to get them in trouble, so I can't figure out why they need to feel the need to lie about it. The next day when sober, they recall how drunk they were...why don't they admit it when they are drunk (since they say they knew they were drunk while drunk)

Well, most people do it to either re-assure the person asking them, or they say it because they think they want to keep drinking, then the next day.... of course they realized how much they had.

I think mostly to reassure you that they are ok and not weak. That question always makes ppl defensive. But being that they are drunk they just don't know better.

When I am hammered there is no way I could answer questions accurately, so knowing if i am drunk or not is no exception.

Trying to make themselves believe they are not, so they can drink more or simply because they don't think they are.
