So, you are one of those who make all kinds of future plans? Doesn't it take "faith" for you to believe that those plans will be fulfilled? Just wondering.

• Kathryn Wilhelmina Boyd: You are a witty spitfire of a woman with comebacks for nearly everything. At twenty three years old, you have already published an edgy, hilarious book about feminism. Your hair is auburn, long, and curly. Your eyes are blue-green. You say you don't need a man in your life, but secretly, you yearn for the "All American" life and family. Ryan gosling • After two years of dating, you two tie the knot. You give birth to a girl a year later. Her first name either has four letters or is one syllable. Her middle name ends in "-ora". May Auroura • When your daughter is two, you give birth to twin boys. Their names can be whatever, but their initials have to be inverse of each other. (E.g. K. R. and R. K.) Bentley Ryder and Rylan Bennett • Your daughter is seven and your twins are five when you give birth to your final child, a girl. Her first name starts with a Y or Z and her middle name is after your mother. Zainie Grace

Hey, I never knew you'd only recently changed over. What prompted it? Could it have been the rampant ignorance of rabid fundies, their utter refusal of science, the threats of hell? Or was it something more - something SPECIAL? Like..... coooookies?! *Feeds Linz special non-theist cookies* Yum?
It's a pretty name but I understand that the connotations now would kind of ruin it. It could, like Hope, be seen in a non-religious (yet spiritual) manner but it sounds as if it's already been spoiled in many ways. Dang, Hope IS sweet. Why don't you name your future daughter Thrice? Then again... the whole Trinity thing. How about Godot? Eh, not the prettiest name. Randi's hot but it means 'horny' in Europe and you may not want your daughter to be followed around by silly 'Peans asking her is she's "feeling Randi" today.
In helping our Chicky think of baby names for a girl I related a story from years ago. I was about 14, late 80s, and my mother and I were watching Oprah. She was doing a show on strange names mothers gave to their children and the effect those names were having on the kids lives. A real tear-jerker, Linz, I tell ya. The camera shows a close-up of a little girl, about 8 or 9, with the most tragic look on her face. Poor thing looks like she hasn't had a moment of peace since she was in utero. Oprah asks Mom, "Why don't you tell the audience what you named your daughter?" Now, Oprah looks angry and my mother and I are waiting with bated breath - what could possibly be so horrible that a little girl could look so utterly traumatized? "Well," says Mom, "I name her after where she COME from. I name her Vagina 'cuz that's where she COME from!" Ahhhh! Needless to say, my mother and I rolled on the floor laughing until we both turned blue and the neighbors had to come and give us CPR. I STILL, to this day, feel guilty about laughing so hard. That poor, poor little girl. You see though, Linz, even Oprah, in all her righteous anger, had the teeniest bit of a smile on her lips and I had to wonder - how many times did she practice for that moment pre-showtime so she wouldn't cry with laughter? And heck, I'm human! It was terrible but I (I'm terrible!) was screaming with laughter, especially upon seeing my mother twitch and gasp and roll off the couch hysterical. I am NOT a bad person.
So, that's another consideration, eh? Vagina?

So am I (bored at work and waiting for the day to end).
Well, you know, there's faith and faith. There's the "religious" kind, which Mark Twain defined perfectly well as the faculty of "believing what ain't true."
The other kind of faith is almost akin to "self-confidence," except that it has no discernable rational basis. It's the feeling that things will be OK, that you'll pull off the long shot, that you'll come through, even though you can't explain why you feel that way. I think it would be perfectly appropriate to name one's child after that kind of faith!

I knew a family in British Columbia near Vancouver whose children were all given names like Faith, Grace, Kindness, Rob for repent or burn in hell... I forgot what the other one was...
One day Rob was stopped by the police for a speeding ticket. When the officer looked at his license, he said, Is this some kind of a joke? And Rob said, What? The officer said, Your name! Rob answered, No, this is my name. His name appeared in full: Repent Or Burn In Hell.
This is not a joke!
Unbelievable, isn't it? :)

I got to know Kindness and she was the sweetest thing you could ever meet! God bless her heart!

You can still name your daughter "Faith," just change the connotations associated with the word (i.e., instead of faith in a deity, perhaps faith in your ability to raise her right, faith in your spouse's devotion to you, faith in being able to discern truth through requisite research, faith that truth is not blind or hidden, but discovered when you honestly look for it).

That is funny. Before my old account was deleted *tear* *moment of silence* I used to go back and read all of my old questions and be shocked at how much I had discovered about my beliefs since I first came here. My 'transition' was soo similar to yours.

The word "faith" does not just apply to religion. You can have faith in many things.

Think for a moment how many credulous, superstitious people have named their children after a Saint or some other biblical character in hopes that it would make the child 'holier' somehow. How many versions in how many countries of 'John' and 'Peter' 'Michael' and 'Paul' and 'Mary' etc.? MILLIONS. You wouldn't have been the first person with a belief in sympathetic magic and little or no imagination.
Welcome to enlightenment. Its tougher here, but ultimately more gratifying.

I think it's a very pretty name. I like names like Faith, Grace, and Hope. They're kind of old fashioned. My grandma is named Grace.
I guess even if you don't believe in Christian faith, you can still like the name.
I'm never going to have kids myself, so I don't really think about baby names much. :)

Keep on keeping on!
Remember, "god" is nothing more than a nonsense word created by man to explain away all of the things we can't yet understand.
Religion is a disease of the mind, born of fear, which has done nothing but bring untold misery down upon the human race.
One less child that will be indoctrinated into a mind control cult from day one. Congrats!
