IF you are comparing two well tuned cars then there will be little difference in CO2 output. There will be a significant benefit to air quailty particularly in respect of particulates which cause lung damage. Also gas is easier and less environmentally damaging to extract and transport in the first instance.

I should point out it is nowhere near as environmentally friendly as bio-ethanol, or hydrogen from a renewable source.

Natural gas burns quite clean. The natural gas Honda Civic (GX) emits 129 g/km of CO2.

In comparison, the Civic hybrid has 116 g/km, Civic SE has 160 g/km, and Prius has 104 g/km. So basically it has higher CO2 emissions than hybrids, but lower than regular gas cars. I believe it's quite good in terms of other emissions as well. Yahoo Autos has it ranked just slightly behind the Prius and Civic hybrid in their top 100 green cars list.
