"Many Christians feel ashamed for being tempted. This is a misunderstanding of maturity. You will never outgrow temptation." I think that's an excerpt from Rick Warren's, "Purpose Driven Life." It's a bummer to hear, but it's true. When someone accepts God as their Lord and Savior, the Enemy (Satan) will use anything he can to tempt that person and have him or her "go off course." What I do to help avoid temptation is pray that God gives me the strength I need to do what is right because there's no way I could do it on my own. Furthermore, I surround myself with fellow believers who can encourage me and keep me accountable. Christians are human, so it's inevitable that we'll fall into temptation every now and then. However, God knows the hearts of His followers and those who are truly trying their best to live their lives for Him. Don't be discouraged. It's very admirable that you're seeking help/advice.
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
~1 Corinthians 10:13 (New International Version)~

In order to be free from temptation you must stay close to the Lord. He give us Armor to fight with (Eph 6:10 thru 18) He gives us promises to hold on to ( Titus 2:11-14) He gives us instructions on how to endure indivudually and as a group. There is a lot to being a Christian, but the best answer is to me it like being a family.
The Family application applies to the Christian existance, more so than any other. Families of old relied on each other to survive. No one was left out except fo r the smallest and most defenseless of all the little children. Everyone in the family that could did a job of some sort, but the responsibility for the family always fell to the Father the head of the house hold.
Now my earthly father was not the best, but I can never recall a time he did not love me and I know he tried his best to give me all he could, therefore even thought I can recall some bad moments with my dad. I have the ability in my maturity now to overlook them and to always see his good for me. I am committed to my earthly father, and if so how much mor am I commited to my Heavenly Father that is so much more able to provide for me and save me from myself.
I could give you a ton of scripture and doctrine, but I find it best this way. Ask Jesus for Help and thank Him every morning you wake. Read His word daily, inolve yourself with His people on a regular basis and never less that once a week for praise and worship. When and if you fail (you sin) get up and ask for forgiveness (this is critical!!!!!) and He is always faithful to foirgive and keep on keepin on.
I hope this helps,
God Bless

You have flee it beloved. At the root, temptation is merely 'suggestion'. The devil's temptations of Jesus were 'suggestions'...why dont you uh....turn these stones to bread? The enemy comes at what he knows is our weakest point, trying to influence us to do what our flesh wants to do. I encourage you to 1)stop listening to the enemy 2) flee...from all appearance of evil and 3) reinforce your faith daily through how you live your life.
If I hang around certain people, I will start cursing and lusting and gossipping. Thats just reality. But because I know what weakness is in my flesh, I abstain, flee, get away from those things and those people and replace them with holy things that help keep me on course.
If you are having a continual deep spiritual fall, I would encourage you to ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. The HS works to seal your salvation and develop that 'nothing shall separate me from the Love of God' sort of spirit.

When the Lord saves a person He gives them the Holy Spirit as a promise seal. A comforter, guide, protector, etc. The Holy Spirit changes our hearts inclination from bad to good. Or evil to righteous. He, the Holy Spirit teaches us through the Word and grows us and separates us from the worldly thinking we once lived in.

Pray that I don't enter into temptation. It's in the Disciple's Prayer.
And trust God for His promises. I try not to get out of bed until I claim a promise from God. It gets me going in the right direction.

To stay committed to God you need to read His Word, and just keep praying, and of course TOTALLY commit your life to Him... As far as temptation, everyone has temptation, in the Bible Jesus himself was tempted, but as you draw closer to God, and learn His ways, you will be able to resist that temptation. We all fall at one time or another, but a just man falleth 7 times, and rises up yet again.., God bless,

It's rather easy if you are saved by the Grace of God. See, that's the problem with today's people who were not brought up in faith. Most want something for nothing. Jesus sacrificed his life for you. Why don't you do a little for Jesus?

It's a daily thing. Constantly reading the Bible and praying and having a relationship with Him. It's actually a much happier life when you stay in the light and out of darkness.

You have to be mature in Christ and make a decision that you aren't going to sin again. Once you get tired of asking for forgiveness, you'll stop. Took me a while too to get the big picture... Sex isn't worth going to hell for.
