Is it true that the Koran teaches that a person of your faith considers those not of your faith, unworthy and unable to stand before God? Please don't misunderstand me, there so many Christian books that are teaching a philosophy of "radical Islam" or "Islamic fascits" are out to kill those of the Jewish and Christian faith.

I also want to know if the Koran teaches that a Muslim can enter into an agreement with a non-believer a "promise or treaty" if you will, and is allowed to break the treaty or promise, and infact can enterinto the agreement with the intention of never honoring it in the first place.

I know that would seem contradictory but it is what we as Christians are being taught about Muslims specifically "radical Islamic extremists". Can any one confirm or deny this teaching?

Thank you and God Bless

I am so greatfull for these wonderful answers. when the time comes I will allow the community to pick the best as I can not at present. I love and appreciate all of you for responding in truth, and in love. I am a Christian, and I don't know how God will do all He has promised, but I believe that he has a plan for Islam and a way to reveal Himself to them in His way.

I would encourage all muslim people to read the techings of Christ, and Know that He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and that I plan on worshiping This clorious God with many of you in this Kingdom of His heaven.

I can not say that I fully understand the ideology of Islam, Allah, or the writings of Muhamad, but I know the OT tells of a time when three great nations will meet one day and worship in one place in Jerusalem together, I believe this is a reference to Christian, Jew, and Muslim.

What a day that will be. When all of these will shed the name and be called by a new name Sons and Daughters of God.

Thanks for the question

1) Everyone will taste death and stand before Allah on the day of judgement. Jewish people and Christians are called "People of the Book."

2) We are not allowed to transgress the limits of anything. If there is a treaty/promise, it's to be adhered to. Most things are to be done in the form of a contract, so that one party is not taken advantage of (one of the reasons we aren't suppose to mess with banks).

I hope this helps, sir.

You're welcome and God Bless.

Islam is not a new religion. It is a continuation of the main stream religions of Monoethism brought by Prophet Adam, Novah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and finally Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon all).

Islam teaches universal brotherhood and equality irrespective of colour, creed or race hence all are equal in the eye of God. The Holy Quran directly addresses Jews and Christians because they are treated as Nations of Holy Books. Prophet Muhammad treats them as his Brothern!

A Muslim is not expected to break his promise, treaty or agreement otherwise he is not a good Muslim. If you read early history of Islam you will find that Muhammad always followed his agreements while pagan arabs including Jews never fulfilled their promises and agreements.

A true Muslim cannot even think of false promise or agreement which he will not fulfill. Here I must clarify that Shiitis - a Muslim-cult and minority has adopted this falsehood as"TAQYYA" and allowed their followers when they have fear of life but main stream Muslim cannot make false promises.

Islam is the most criticised religion since last 200 years - the colonial era! Almost one book comes out daily to blame Islam and no body bothers to find the truth! The Non-Muslim writers create new terms and definations, unfounded in Islamic world like Holy Wars for Jihad, Radical Islam and Modern Islam etc. No Muslim can accept these terms & definations but media is promoting the same to malign Islam.

Addition: Tabatha. Dont you hv any valid excuse! Every one knows Jews are not Arab. I used the word "including" means both nations!!

Islam holds every one equal and don't restrict the basic rights of any one and since it is the right of a person to ask his Lord for what ever he wishes .. Islam is unbiased about it ...!

More over Quran is the book of all knowledge .. apart of which we interpret and understand and the remaining is to be understood. Islam allows the making of a contract with the non believers .. and Islam also adjudges it correct and a Muslim is bound by its conditions as well ... regarding the breaking of a contract ... it is as per mercantile law ... that if the other party defaults or refuses to fulfill the part so agreed the contract is held void.

and No Islam dont allows to enter into a contract with the intension to decieve.

Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians, and the converts; anyone who (1) believes in GOD, and (2) believes in the Last Day, and (3) leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord. They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve. (Quran 2:62)

AGAIN...
Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the converts, and the Christians; any of them who (1) believe in GOD and (2) believe in the Last Day, and (3) lead a righteous life, have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve. (Quran 5:69)

I guess the above verses answer your first Q :)...

Your second Q regarding breaking a promise with a non-Muslim... its not allowed... there is a name for such a person in Islam... its not a good name anyways :D but I can't remember it right now :D
I'll find a verse that supports the answer to your second Q... but I'm way too sleepy now n have an exam tomorrow :D...
So don't close the question... I'll be back to update the second part :)

EDIT:
Am here... as promised :)

Exempted are those who join people with whom you have signed a peace treaty, and those who come to you wishing not to fight you, nor fight their relatives. Had GOD willed, He could have permitted them to fight against you. Therefore, if they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then GOD gives you no excuse to fight them. (Quran 4:90)

If the idol worshipers sign a peace treaty with you, and do not violate it, nor band together with others against you, you shall fulfill your treaty with them until the expiration date. GOD loves the righteous. (Quran 9:4)

I am Baha'i and believe I may be able to answer with respects.

Q:" Is it true that the Koran teaches that a person of your faith considers those not of your faith, unworthy and unable to stand before God?"

A: This is the same is has always been, and always will be - no one is worthy of standing in God's presence, it is a Gift from Allah [The God/Father] that we know God by the example of Prophets or Messengers. A life of faith, keeping with the teaching according to the needs of the time of your life [temporal covenant], should be lived for the well being of society. Only the eternal covenant has full sway after the limits of time in this world have been dissolved. This is a rational argument.

Q: "Please don't misunderstand me, there so many Christian books that are teaching a philosophy of "radical Islam" or "Islamic fascits" are out to kill those of the Jewish and Christian faith."

A: To kill any non-aggressor, non-destructive person, is considered equal to killing all of humanity, and is strongly denounced by the Prophet Muhammad. The purpose of justified killing, is merely to send those committing crimes against society, and life, to stand before God so they might be purified from their intent, and to protect society from decay as much as humanly possible. Also it is reported that to harm a Christian or Jew, Muhammad said: "Anyone who harms one these people of the book has harmed Me, and has me for their enemy."

Q: "I also want to know if the Koran teaches that a Muslim can enter into an agreement with a non-believer a "promise or treaty" if you will, and is allowed to break the treaty or promise, and infact can enterinto the agreement with the intention of never honoring it in the first place."

A: Treaties and agreements are to be considered sacred documents in Islam, and to break such an agreement is tantamount to breaking your covenant with God. That is, you must keep your word, and be trustworthy in all things. The only freeing of such agreements is by the Grace of God, they may be forgiven from their obligations by their companion in trust, or if the other party has broken their agreement/trust first.

We Baha'is believe in the truth of Muhammad, but that His temporal covenant has elapsed since 1844, and we are now obliged to follow the teaching of the "Return of Christ." as foretold in the Quran and Gospel in the person of the Baha'u'llah [Glory of God/The Father], and this will last no less than a thousand years, and that The Most Great Peace will come when His teachings are fulling promoted and taught, and are written in hearts, and brows of both, men, and women equally.

Thank you... and for your cordially, and kind manner of questioning, beloved servant of Christ .

Allah'u'Abha [God is all glorious].

May the light of the knowledge of Christ encircle the globe, and the heat of faith warm your life. - God bless.

Islam means surrendering to the Will of Allah. I wonder how can there be 'radical Islam'? Of course there are harsh realities outlined in the Holy Quran, like tooth for a tooth, slaying those who drive you out of your homes and the like. But it also says even in war to spare the lives of women, old (incapable of fighting) and children. And says not to begin hostilities and that He does not loveth the aggressor (Surah II : 190). About standing before Him and His words about Jews, Christians and Sabaens Verse no. 62 of Surah (Chapter) no. 2 has already quoted. There are quite a few verses on honoring a treaty once made. Here is one: In the name of Allah the Benificent the Merciful. "How can there be a treaty with Allah and His messenger for the idolaters save those with whom ye made a treaty at the Inviolable Place of Worship? So long as they are true to you, be true to them. Lo! Allah loveth those who keep their duty." (Surah IX : 7).

God bless you.

What the Qur'an teaches is very different than what a few "radical" Muslims follow. Notice, you yourself used the term radical. If a Muslim was not radical, he would definitely be of the opinion that one does not have to be a Muslim in order to stand before God. The Qur'an has repeatedly quoted God as saying that (And I'm paraphrasing I don't currently have the quote on me) the true believers of Islam, Christianity and Judaism will all enter His Kingdom. Notice in that sentence, God has included Muslims too; which is evident that even we Muslims don't think we will all enter heaven just because we call ourselves Muslims. The Qur'an teaches us that God will judge us by our actions, deeds, and not by what we call ourselves. And unfortunately, especially after 911 a lot of Christians and non-Christians are misquoting the Qur'an out of anger and hatred. But even a 5 year old can misquote you and make you seem like a liar. A true Muslim will never set out to kill anybody, let alone Jews or Christians. Again, we Muslims are repeated told that Jews and Christians are our Brothers, whether they think that of us or not is totally up to them.

And the Qur'an does allow a Muslim to enter into an agreement with others. I don't want to refer to Christians as non-believers because that choice I made is in perfect accordance with the Qur'an itself, that they ARE believers. So yes, we are allowed to sign an agreement with them but if they continue to violate that agreement, then we are no longer responsible for sticking to that agreement, because as the Qur'an teaches, we have the right to defend ourselves if necessary. Our Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) has never broken a treaty, never attacked an unsuspecting enemy. In fact, he continuously demanded his followers to never attack an enemy while he is praying, sleeping, and to not harm his family which includes their wives and children. And if the enemy is willing to end the war, then we have the responsibility to end it with them because otherwise we will be continuing a fight that has the potential to end. And God does not like aggressors. If a Muslim signs a treaty with the intent of not honouring it in the first place, then he/she is doing it in his own interest, because if he was truly following Islam he would dare not dishonour such a treaty, otherwise he will have to answer to God.

Right now there is too much animosity among Christians and Muslims because I noticed that Qur'an is continuously being misquoted and people who do not know any better seem to believe everything that they're being told. As a Muslim, I can simply suggest that you read the Qur'an for yourself. I'm not saying that to make you convert, but so that you can have a first hand understanding of what a great book it is, and does not contain contradictions whatsoever, and that it promotes friendship among the 3 Abrahaimic religions. It's unfortunate that some Muslims go against these teachings, but they are not only criminals in this world alone, they are criminals in the sight of our Allah as well and He will deal with them justly, just like He promised he will.

Assalamu Alaikum,
my answer is all ready ttooken, and its the right answer, by جهاد بطل الله , our Prophet peace be upon him, had a lot of peaceful treatys plus his companions, one of the most famous treatys was called Al ahid Al Omari, whichs means "Omars Treaty" . this treaty was to have peace with the christians and the Muslims . it was about : that every religion respects the other religion, plus protecting each other, and not stealing from each others , this treaty has a lot of rules , i remeber them all. i want to answer the question in my way,
1) the Quran was sent down from Allah for every one , doesnt matter whats the nationallity . the Quran was sent down to bring those in darkness to light, plus Allah does not compare any person the only thing Allah will compare u with is your faith. Islam respects each religion even those who r (polythiests). they will stand in front of Allah, but not everyone will see Allah, thats what i wanted to add to جهاد بطل answer.
2) its okay, but they should write it down and have witnesses from each side. they could only break the treaty in certains times, if one side is not doing whats promise, or one is doing a something that is against Islam, u should break the treay.
Wassalamu Alaikum
PS when someone says Assalamu Alaikum , say Wassalamu Alaikum.

I want to thank you for asking this question. This is truly what Y!A should be used for. I learned a lot from reading the answers, and I also want to thank all Muslims who gave such heart-felt answers.

I really commend you - it takes a truly open-minded person to ignore propaganda and search for the real truth, even if it means listening to those who are being demonized. It's true as was said above that there is a lot of animosity between Muslims and Christians right now, and a lot of misunderstandings leading to hatred. No matter what religious affiliations the murderers who perpetrated 9-11 claimed, we shouldn't let that make us overgeneralize all followers of a religion.

I think it's very telling that the only person who answered and said that Islam teaches to kill non-believers identified himself as a non-Muslim. I'm grateful to the Muslims who answered - if you cleared some misconceptions for even a few people I would see that as a victory :-)

God bless,
~H

سيف الله بطل ‎جهاد‎ gave the good answer. No, the true answer. You are welcome to ask any thing with us friendly.
Our holy prophet pbuh entered several peace agreements with non-muslims.
The famous peace treaty...hmmm...........i dont remember its name. This agreement was between Muslims and Jews in which both had to protect each other from the enemies. Also it had said if their is a war between Jews and their enemies, the Muslims will help Jews, similarly if their is a war between Muslims and their enemies, the Jews will help them. This agreement remained a successful peace agreement b/w Muslims and Jews until the Jews broke the agreement.

Muslims are not allowed to break any type of agreements.

Also our Holy prophet pbuh siad,"An agreement must be in black and white"

(You are good, you are the first non-muslim i saw here who is neutral with Islam.Hope God make every Non-Muslims like you!)

Whoever stands before God is Gods choosing not a person alive can say who is worthy and who is not. The Quran teaches that Islam is the true path and for us of course that is what we believe. We are taught to respect other faiths. If God states in his book who and who will not stand before him it is his words and not for us to interpret as we will but to believe in his revelations and behave and act accordingly.
I know nothing of "radical Islam" as there is no such thing. Are there Muslims who are radical? Yes. But that does not mean the Islamic faith is radical, No. Are there radicals in Catholicism and Christianity? Yes does that mean both these faiths teaches it? No.
I have never heard of such a treaty. I have never met a more Honorable people than those of the Islamic faith that is why i chose to become one. They have light shining from there faces and honor is very high on the list.
Maybe you should just pick up the quran and read it. Maybe you should visit a mosque and talk to a few real Muslims you would be nothing but welcomed and treated with respect.
Peace to you.
