I disagree with your premise. Something that may give light to general "deterioration" of society is something that I read in a pottery book. The author noted that very primitive pottery barely served it's function. that is, primitive man was so busy getting food and defending himself against the elements that when he finally got around to making a cup or a bowl, it was barely a cup or a bowl. As conditions improved, the state of the art got a better (as evidenced by more time taken to make the cups and bowls). When Man finally got to where he was pretty comfortable, the bowls and cups were exquisite works of art, much like the Deco era of America's recent past. After that, with much time on his hands, he started adding much ornate decorations that it really got ugly (that's where the word gaudy comes from, after the artist). You can see the same thing with cars these days, electric retracting side steps and self folding seats, little blinky lights on the rear view mirrors, $80,000 Lincoln pick-ups which do not serve the function of a pick-up; you get the picture.. So, the same can be said of culture, mankind is at a point of "leisure" and can have anything he wants, so he seeks to experience pleasure in any form and it takes the form of reduced morality and that leads to what we have today. So, in a loose way, perhaps homosexuality does "evolve" from "religion", when it is the worship of pleasure and me, me, me...

I see what you're saying, but I think there are other factors you have to consider.
One of them you already mentioned: in a society where homosexuality is somewhat socially acceptable (whether it's certain countries today, or certain past cultures, etc.) it's hard to say off hand whether there really more homosexuals per capita today, or is it just that you see so many who are open about being "out of the closet".
Another thing is that there are other factors that contribute to over-population. I know that missionaries going to 3rd world countries and saying "you need to do better, but don't use birth control!" certainly contributes. But when you have an exponential growth rate, it's just the nature of mathematics that the numbers grow bigger and bigger in shorter and shorter time frame, even if habits don't change. Just look at the graph of any exponential curve.
Yet another thing to consider, and I think more importantly, is whether the biological argument here is sound. In a population competing for resources, it is certainly better (if not inevitable) for the whole population that it doesn't grow too big. But when you factor in things like economics and health care, it becomes more of a question of sociology than biology.

I've sometimes wondered whether there actually has been an increase in congenital homosexuality in recent years (more likely it's just that society has evolved and gay people no longer remain sequestered in the closet), and if so, if it could be some sort of natural response to overpopulation. I don't believe that people consciously make a choice to be gay in order to check population growth...lol. And I don't think it has anything particularly to do with Christianity.
As usual, though, it's cute to watch "Catholic Crusader" launch into his standard anti-homo rant, considering that he's "crusading" on behalf of the world's largest front organization for serial pedophiles.

Your theory in interesting and the observation of homosexuality in animals is infact correct. In approx 1700 species. I have never seen evidence that this is population control. Although studies into this are not conclusive there are many theories. Also the Percentage homosexuality of the world cannot be measured due to confounding factors (increased social acceptance as you observe). Continuing to extend this to religion as the cause is starting to stretch it in my opinion.

you're make a sweeping generalisation that no faith accepts homosexuality or birth control, mine does. As paganism has no dogma and little or no doctrine so it would not carry forth adversarial to any social crew. That being suggested particular paths like wicca as an social gathering concentration on the duality between male and woman, yet that is as a lot inner as exterior, that is about accepting your female aspect if you're male, and your masculine aspect if you're lady. So in answer for your question - they could.

Id say that the unreligious left does a pretty good job of keeping the population numbers down through legalized abortion.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there were 854,122 legal induced abortions in the US in 2003.
The growing incident of SIN in general is because the unreligious left supports if not pushes it in propaganda like fashion.

nay, homosexual intercourses were frequent in the ancient Greek society, as well as in Roman society, both well before the Christianity.
to your theory of overpopulation, in the past times the Earth certainly was not overpopulated.
Overpopulation has different means of negative feedback, most likely increased aggression, canibalism and loss of the sexual appetite due to the stress

Where did you get your source?? Actually, in science we find that the opposite is true. That when animals are confined to a single sex environment, that they will spontaneously change sex. This happens easily with reptiles. Besides we are a long long long way from global overpopulation.

Homosexuals have existed for thousands of years, and in non-human animals as well. Don't let the extremist "Christians" tell you otherwise.
