For example, if you watch Eastenders, Emmerdaly etc, it seems more "real-to-life", but something like Holby City etc has a different image quality when you watch it that's hard to describe. More like what a film would look like. Is there a name for this?

usually in films they use some computer applications
for grading and correcting colors.
for example in " the lord of the rings " they used Shake
for grading and correcting colors and composites.
for more information search "color grade for films".
I don't know if I answered you.

No we don't, I myself only watch awesome tv shows and films here are some examples; Heroes Prison Break Lost Desperate Housewives South Park The Simpsons Family Guy Run's House Yo momma America's next top model American Dad Skins Lucky number Slevin Sin City The city of God Scarface Goodfellas Hitch The good the bad and the ugly Scary movie especially 2 Unbreakable Infernal affairs The sixth sense The prodigal son Sleeping fist Drunken master The usual suspects Kung fu hustle Kill Bill Reservoir dogs etc...I'm a sucker for movies with a twist, drama, comedy, martial arts and some gangster movies but I'm prone to watch a few what you'd call chick flicks just like any other woman but thats not all we watch lol! Some of them are really good by the way, I like a little romance in my movies it's nice...I just avoid those Hugh Grant ones, and the likes of Love actually lol!

The film-like picture seen on some videotaped television shows is achieved by adjusting video cameras to record at motion picture frame speed.
