you want to say: ¿de dónde eres? (were are you from?) or ¿dónde estás?(were are you?)

Donde eres,? is not exactly a correct way to ask..Do you mean where are you from? then is: De donde eres?

It's not good Spanish. It should be either:

De donde eres = where are you from, or
Dónde estás? = where are you?

Where are you? would be: Dónde estás? (with the upside down question mark at the beginning too) De dónde eres? is where are you from?
