I send my kids out to solicit candy from strangers.

Beats the heck out of buying it myself.

I think that you should raise your children however you feel is right. If, as a Christian, you feel it is demonic to celebrate Halloween by trick or treating, then don't let them do it.

Personally, I don't think trick or treating is any of that stuff. It is a commercial holiday just like all the rest. Originally it had pagan connections, but a lot of people believe it started with the Spanish tradition of honoring the dead and remembrance of the dead. Nowadays, it is just about the almighty dollar: getting people to buy silly *** costumes and candy to make mas dinero!

I'd let my kids trick or treat (if I had kids) and I am a believer of Christ and I try (emphasis on "try") to be a good Christian. I did when I was a kid and had lots of fun. My parents just never let me believe in all the demonic stuff. I was never allowed to be a devil or a witch or anything like that.

Halloween is a Christian holiday, the eve of All souls day, a day to remember and pray for the dead. In olden times, the evening before was the start of the holiday, from sundown to sundown. Halloween comes from the term All Hallows eve.

Samhain is a pagan/Wiccan holiday.

There are various holidays that fall on or about the same day, that doesn't make them the same, or their meaning the same.

don't throw out the baby because someone next door put something you don't care for into their own bathwater.

don't celebrate what you don't deem appropriate, but don't refuse to celebrate because someone else is either.

For those who think Halloween is evil and equated with Satan -- Halloween is NOT evil. Halloween has pagan roots, yes. However, do you celebrate Christmas? How about Easter? They have pagan roots as well and much stronger than those at Halloween.

The bottom line is, Halloween does have Pagan roots (again, so does Christmas and Easter). Regardless, it was never evil....it is not currently evil. It was and is a time of celebration and to honor those who have passed on, a time to pay respects to our ancestors and to our loved ones who have died. In ancient times it was also the late harvest festival -- a time to celebrate the hard work of summer as the late crops were harvested as well as a time to mentally and physically prepare for the harsh winter coming (this was done through festivals).

In the mainstream of things -- it's a fun night for kids to go out dressed up to get some candy. Let them go and be kids and have fun.

Halloween is not a religious holiday or a satanist holiday, it's a commercial holiday. It's a chance for kids to dress up, get free candy and have fun.

Please don't tell me you honestly believe it's the work of Satan and that by participating children are doing the work of the devil. This is an alarmist interpretation arrived at by people who are not looking out for children, but rather seeking things to call evil. Doing this is much like the local news that looks for things to make parents worry. It's all for ratings/attendance, and in the case of fundamentalist churches, it's also about control.

sounds like a good opportunity to do some Q & A as a family. Is there a good library nearby? Doing research about this online might get too confusing.
Sure it's a pagan holiday, but not any more satannic than Christmas or Easter.

Honestly, if churches are going to pick and choose when something is deemed to be of the devil, then be consistant. They should now boycott Easter because it is actually a pre-Christian pagan holiday, the fall festival you going to is based on pagan beliefs. If one were to study a lot of the concepts of Christianity, one would find that a lot of it was derived from pagan beliefs and anything paganized is suppossed to be of the devil.

in case your little ones do no longer prefer to take part then you definately shouldn't tension them. Our church has a chili prepare dinner off and trunk or manage and each and all the little ones gown. we don't talk with regard to the which potential at the back of Halloween we basically have a great time. i do no longer think Halloween is a foul impression.

It seems to me like the big test of faith has been best-ode upon you.....now if you say you a Christian then you should do the Christian thing and not let your kids trick-or-treat, or else you would be considered a hypocrite in the eyes of the church if you do. Its against their rules to celebrate Hollows Eve.
That's why I don't go to church, I have faith and I believe in a greater power (Alpha-Omega) I don't need anybody dictating what I can and can-not celebrate!!!!

Halloween has NOTHING to do with the Devil or Satan or Evil! That is an invention by the Churches to control everyone! It is a day for honoring your ancestors and since it's commercialization, to dress up in costume and eat candy! Lighten up!

Hallowen in America seems harmless - a night of fun. But in the UK it is closer to what Hallowen actually is - it is a night celebrating evil things - demons, witches and the like. What my parents always did on Oct. 31st was to rent a movie and watch it with popcorn - that way we kids didn't feel left out of the "fun" our friends were having. Some of this so-called fun is smashing beer bottles against people's houses (happened to us once) and also eggs. Crime goes up on Hallowen too cuz there's more people out in the dark. Do something fun with them instead.
